Fixed Interval DataGrid

DataGrids that are locked in terms of the intervals help create calculations and inputs into regular DataGrids or other calculations.

DataGrids in CoolPlanetOS are of two types, and you can read more about DataGrids in general here. This article focuses on Fixed Interval DataGrids.

How do I create a Fixed Interval DataGrid?

Clicking the Add Sheet button brings up the panel to help you create a new DataGrid.

Give DataGrid a memorable name. The DataGrid Type is always set to Regular by default, so change it to select the Fixed Interval option. This activates the Interval selection. You can optionally choose to give your DataGrid a colour. This is especially useful when any columns from this DataGrid are referenced in another DataGrid. Read this for more about Reference Columns in CoolPlanetOS.

What intervals are supported?

We support multiple intervals since it affects the type of data you have as a user.

  • Production data may make sense at a weekly fixed interval

  • When viewed in correlation to weather data, commercial buildings' energy consumption may make sense at a daily interval.

In CoolPlanetOS, we support the following intervals of data granularity:

  • 1

  • 5

  • 10

  • 15

  • 30

  • Hourly

  • Daily

  • Weekly

  • Monthly

  • Yearly

Once all the mandatory fields are filled, the Create button is active, and the new Fixed Interval DataGrid is created.

Why would I use a Fixed Interval DataGrid?

Specific models or calculations that drive KPIs or enable charts to be compared against an ideal theoretical model must be done at an interval that applies to it.

Example

A calculation of a model derived from a Scatter chart, calculated at an interval of your choice, can be brought into a chart to provide a good base comparison.

How can I tell Regular and Fixed DataGrids apart?

  • The tabs look different visually.

  • The timestamp column has the DataGrid level interval display.

  • The rows in the DataGrid are driven by this DataGrid level interval rather than the WorkBook level interval.

How can I use Charts created in a Fixed Interval DataGrid in my dashboards?

Charts created within Fixed Interval DataGrids cannot be used in dashboards.

Fixed Interval DataGrid charts are used for analysis at the WorkBook level. Use Reference Columns to use a Fixed Interval DataGrid column in a Dashboard Chart.
