The Reference Column is one of the three column types in WorkBook's DataGrids. Reference columns in CoolPlanetOS are currently available for any Calculation column made in the DataGrid.

How do I Reference a Column?

The option to find and add a Reference Column is available in the Add Columns menu on the GridBar.

Reference Columns - Supported column types

CoolPlanetOS supports a Reference column of the type "Calculation Column". Any calculation column created in DataGrids within a WorkBook can be referenced from other DataGrids within the same workbook.

Finding a Reference Column

The Find Reference Column panel helps you filter and find Calculations that may live in other DataGrids. The first 80 referencable columns are listed for users to filter by default.

Filters

The list of columns can be filtered by:

  • Reference Column Name

  • Reference Column Type

  • Parent DataGrid

  • Kind

  • Unit

Usage Information

The Find Reference Column shows the number of times a column has been referenced in the current DataGrid as the last column in the Filtered Results list. You can add a column more than once if you choose to.

In this example, the column from another DataGrid has been referenced once.

Reference Column Properties

A reference column inherits its properties from the Referenced Column, but some can be overridden once added to a DataGrid. It does not affect the Referenced Column.

How do I access Reference Column Properties?

You can access the Reference Column Properties in one of the following ways:

  • Double-click on the Reference Column's header.

  • Clicking on the Column Properties option in the context menu.
