How to Generate and Manage API Keys in Bookboost

This article explains how to create, use, and rotate API keys in Bookboost. API keys allow third-party integrations and vendors (such as website form integrations) to connect securely to your Bookboost account.

Generating a New API Key and accessing to it

  1. Request support to generate an API key for you

  2. Support confirms the API key has been generated

  3. Log in to your Bookboost account.

  4. Open Settings.

  5. Navigate to the API access / Access tokens section

  1. Copy the key and store it securely. The key is sensitive and should be treated like a password.

  2. Provide the key to the vendor or integration that will use it (for example, a website form integration), and keep a note of what it is used for.

Rotating an API Key (Important)

If you need to rotate (replace) an existing API key, follow this safe process to avoid downtime:

  1. Delete the old key first, then create a new one (ask support for help with this).

  2. Update the integration or vendor with the new key.

  3. Confirm the integration is working correctly with the new key.

Best Practices

  • Store API keys in a secure location (e.g. a password manager).

  • Label each key with the integration or vendor it is used for.

  • Rotate keys periodically or whenever a team member with access leaves.

  • Never share API keys over insecure channels (e.g. plain email or chat).
