π Understanding Consent Configuration in Bookboost
Introduction
Managing guest consent is a critical part of responsible hotel marketing. Whether you're sending promotional newsletters, WhatsApp messages, or pre-arrival communications, it's important to ensure guests have agreed to receive them β and that you're storing that agreement correctly.
Bookboost's Consent Configuration feature gives you a structured way to define consent types, control how consent is collected, and gate your campaigns based on each guest's consent status. This article walks you through what each field and setting does, and how to put it all together.
What Is a Consent Configuration?
A consent configuration is the definition of a consent type β think of it as a consent form template that you create once. Once set up, guests can grant or revoke that specific consent, and you can reference it across campaigns and guest profiles.
Each consent configuration has several key fields:
FormCode / Code β The internal identifier for the consent type. This is what external systems like your PMS, API, or CSV imports use to reference and map consent data.
Title β The human-readable name shown to operators and guests when managing their preferences.
Body β The longer descriptive text explaining what the guest is opting into. This should always be filled in β leaving it blank can result in empty or confusing consent screens in the guest-facing flow.
Label β Short microcopy used next to a checkbox or toggle (e.g. "I agree to receive marketing emails").
Description β An operator-facing explanation of what the consent is for. In some screens, this may also be visible to guests.
Behavior Toggles: How Consent Moves Between Statuses
Two key toggles control how consent is assigned and confirmed. Understanding these is essential to setting up the right flow for your property. π§
Require Confirmation (Double Opt-In) When this is turned ON, any consent added to a guest β whether manually, via PMS/API, or through auto-grant β will first be set to pending. It only becomes granted after the guest clicks a confirmation link you send them.
When turned OFF, consent can be stored directly as granted (or implicit if added via auto-grant).
Auto-Grant with Reservation When this is turned ON, Bookboost will automatically add the consent to a guest when a reservation is created or synced. You can optionally set rules, such as only applying this to the primary guest or to bookings from a specific channel.
How the Two Toggles Combine
Here's a quick reference for how the two settings interact:
Use Cases
Newsletter opt-in β Use double opt-in to ensure guests explicitly confirm their marketing consent before receiving campaigns.
PMS-driven marketing consent β Auto-grant consent on reservation sync, then confirm via a pre-arrival email with a confirmation link.
SMS or WhatsApp marketing β Gate campaigns so they only send to guests with granted or implicit consent for that channel.
Guest self-service β Let guests manage their own preferences via the Digital Reception or Guest App.
Unsubscribe handling β Include an unsubscribe link in campaigns so guests can revoke consent at any time.

Known Issues and Limitations
Missing Body field β If the Body field is left empty on a consent configuration, guests may see a blank or confusing consent screen in the guest-facing flow. Always ensure this field is populated before activating the configuration.
Silent unsubscription β When a guest uses an unsubscribe link, no confirmation email is sent to them. If your guests expect a confirmation, you will need to set up a separate follow-up campaign manually.
PMS/API consent status β When consent is added via PMS or API and Require Confirmation is ON, the consent will be set to pending regardless of the source. The guest must still click a confirmation link for it to become granted.
Conclusion
Consent configuration in Bookboost gives you precise control over how guest consent is collected, stored, and applied across your communications. By understanding the Code, Body, Label, and Description fields β and by choosing the right combination of Require Confirmation and Auto-Grant settings β you can build compliant, guest-friendly consent flows that power your CRM campaigns with confidence. π―
