WhatsApp Call-to-Action (CTA) buttons let you add tappable buttons to WhatsApp message templates. Guests can send a quick reply, call your hotel, or open a link directly from the message, with no typing required. CTA buttons are available for WhatsApp templates only.
Where CTA buttons are available
The Campaign Editor, for both Journeys and Broadcasts
The Message Template Editor
CTA buttons are not supported in Omnichannel templates or other non-WhatsApp messages.
Before you start
You're editing a WhatsApp message template, in either the Campaign Editor or the Message Template Editor.
You know which button type you need (Quick Reply, Phone, or Link) and have the button text ready, along with a phone number or URL if applicable.
How to add a CTA button
Open the Campaign Editor (Journeys or Broadcasts) or the Message Template Editor for a WhatsApp template.
Find the Actions section, located between the message text field and the "Digital Reception" / "Token" buttons.
Click the + button next to Actions.
In the dropdown, choose the action type: Quick Reply, Phone, or Link.
Enter the button text.
For Phone or Link, enter the value: a phone number or a URL.
Repeat to add more buttons. The number you can add depends on the template format and WhatsApp's own limits.
CTA button types
Quick Reply: Sends a predefined reply using the button text when the guest taps it.
Phone: You set a label (e.g., "Call Us") and a phone number. Tapping the button lets the guest call directly.
Link: You set a label (e.g., "Visit Website") and a URL. Tapping the button opens the link in the guest's browser.
Editing or removing a button
To edit a button, click its text or the three dots menu beside it.
To remove a button, click the x icon next to it.
Rules and requirements
No emojis or special characters in the button text.
Button text must be 25 characters or fewer.
Tokens are not allowed in the button text (label). They're supported in the URL field of a Link button. See Using a Mews Token in a Link Button URL.
Phone numbers must use + followed by the country code, not 00. Example: Sweden uses +46, not 0046.
Common use cases
Call Now: A Phone button so guests can reach the front desk in one tap.
Visit Website: A Link button pointing to your booking engine or website.
Quick Reply: Let guests confirm a detail, like their check-in time, with a single tap.
Guest self-service: A Link button using a Mews token so guests land straight on their personal check-in or Navigator homepage link. See Using a Mews Token in a Link Button URL.
Common questions
Which templates support CTA buttons?
WhatsApp templates only, in the Campaign Editor (Journeys and Broadcasts) and the Message Template Editor. They're not available for Omnichannel or other non-WhatsApp templates.
How many buttons can I add to one message?
As many as your template format and WhatsApp's own limits allow.
Why won't my button text save with an emoji in it?
WhatsApp doesn't allow emojis or special characters in CTA button text. Keep it plain text, 25 characters or fewer.
What phone format should I use?
Use + and the country code (for example, +46 for Sweden), not 00.
Can I use a token in a button?
Not in the button text. In a Link button's URL field, yes. See Using a Mews Token in a Link Button URL for the exact pattern.
Do I need to turn this on?
No, CTA buttons are available automatically in the Campaign and Template Editor for WhatsApp templates.
