This Guide will show you how to add a product to CAPA. This task should be carried out by Second line support or Clinical Safety Officer.
- Log in to CAPA & go to product search F10 or Search>External search>product
- Check the product is not already listed on CAPA by searching the medication.
Step One: If the item is not showing on CAPA search the product on the NHS DM+D website. If the product appears in the list then the product should be available to add on CAPA.
Select the medication from the AMP list and check the product formulation.
Please note: If the medication is available on DM+D but not on CAPA please raise on the CAPA Medications Requests Channel for review.
Step Two: If the item is not showing on CAPA press Add to search the product to add.
Step Three - Highlight the product to add. (Products in grey will should already be available on CAPA. When you try to add a product already on CAPA the below message will appear as a warning).
Step Four - Select the product to be added to CAPA. Answer key question Is it possible to split the contents of this pack? then press PREPARE
Step Five -Review the details of the product
Prep type - Standard, Special Order, Drinks, CD or Fridge lines
Formulation - Select the formulation of product.
Select ADD to proceed with adding the product. The below message will appear to confirm adding the product.
A box will appear to confirm if the drug should ByPass Qty/Stock Control. Items which do not have stock control as the stock cannot be calculated by Atlas PCS need to be manually managed by you in the home, for example surgical items, creams, eye/ear drops, liquid food supplements, ampoules and pre-filled syringes for example surgical items, creams, eye/ear drops, liquid food supplements, ampoules and pre-filled syringes. In this case you would tick Bypass Stock Control.
Select add to confirm completion. CAPA will show you the added product.
Please note: If a product is not available to be added on CAPA it could be an over counter medication e.g. Turmeric & black pepper capsules which cannot be added to the system and would have to be managed on a paper MAR.
If in doubt when adding a medication please check with the Clinical Safety Officer or Post on the CAPA Medications Requests Channel for confirmation.
