The NFC Tag feature enables devices at a location to be locked out of the Atlas eMAR mobile app, until a enabled tag is tapped by the user during the login in process. The NFC Feature is designed to help protect sensitive information being accessed by unauthorised people outside of its indented location.

The NFC Tag feature is optional and will need to be enabled to use it. It is enabled from the Security Settings screen for a given Care Home.

Note: You must create at least one NFC tag before enabling this security feature.

To create a NFC location tag follow this process:

1. Log into your Atlas device.

2. Select the options cog located in the top right hand corner, scroll to the bottom of the list and select write location tag.

3. Following the on screen prompt, tap the tag on the back of the device.

4. Once the tag has been successfully been created a message will appear on screen

Repeat this process for any additional tags you wish to create. Once you have created your tags, the NFC location feature can be enabled via Atlas Central.

To enable the NFC location feature, follow this process;

1. Log in to Atlas Central.

2. From the navigation panel on the left-hand side of the page, expand the "My Care Home" Section and select the option Security Features.

3. Select the toggle located next to "requires NFC Location Tag" to turn the feature on, the select save.

4. Synchronise your device(s) to enable this feature.

Useful Information:

NFC stands for “Near Field Communication” and is the same technology that contactless payments use on your bank card or phone. Atlas eMAR uses NFC technology to read and write tags that are programmed for use with the NFC Lockout feature.

What types of Tags are available?

There are a range of tags available from Amazon or other retailers online, and much will depend on what use cases you plan to implement as to the form of tag you decide to use. For instance, some come as stickers, some tags can be painted over, some can’t be used on metal surfaces, some come with tamper proof measures that destroy the tag if removed, key-fobs, cards and even wearable ones.

IMPORTANT: The main requirement of the tags for use with Atlas eMAR devices is that they meet the NTAG216 specification, such as the NXP MIFARE Ultralight (Ultralight C), that can be supplied by PCS.
