If a Zebra Device is not scanning when using the in-built scanner, please first of all ensure that when using the barcode scanner activation button:
1. The light comes on and is appropriately pointing at the QR code or barcode through the top of the device
2. The barcode scanning button is held down for a few seconds to allow the scanner time to identify the barcode as in certain conditions it may need to have its position or lighting adjusted. Please move the device around slightly and slowly to alter the angle and distance whilst holding the scanner button down
3. The scanner is held approximately 15-30cm’s away from the barcode when trying to scan
Once all of these basic troubleshooting steps are complete, please see our contingency solution below.
Zebra handheld devices contain both in built scanners and in built cameras will have a feature which allows swapping between the two at any moment in order to scan resident barcodes, medication or book in stock. In order to access this it will need to be turned on.
From the main page of the Atlas App on the device, after logging in, please navigate to the options cog at the top of the screen.
From here please select the toggle that shows below reading Use Camera Scanner into the Yes position. Then restart the app.
Now when viewing residents, medication lists or booking in/stock return screens you will be presented with the following button at the bottom of the screen
You will be able to continue scanning using the in built scanner as normal, however, if for whatever reason you wish to swap to the camera please press this button. A viewfinder will open which will search for and read any barcode placed in front of it.
Tips
Please position the camera around 15-30 cm’s away from the label and ensure the lighting is good.
Please also try to move the device around slightly to aid the camera in registering the barcode if it does not identify it immediately, however the camera should identify and read the barcode within moments.
Please note: This feature is only compatible with devices which are running the Atlas eMAR application version 9.0.12 and above.
