We're trying to create something new here, meaning we have to decide what words mean when used within Guided Pathways for Confluence. We'll use this article to clear up any confusion about what we mean by Guide, Pathway, and Step. It should become clear as you start to use Guided Pathways, but here's a basic breakdown of what we mean when we use those terms.

Guide

A guide is a collection of related content around a particular subject.

For example, you might create a guide for onboarding new team members. This guide would contain all your Confluence content related to your onboarding process.

Pathway

A pathway is the route a user takes as they navigate through your guide, taking into account any decisions the user has made as they work their way through it.

In the Onboarding example above, you might display a generic Welcome! page and ask the user to specify which region they are in. The button they click to select their region moves them along their pathway.

Step

A step is a Confluence page or blog that is displayed to the user. Each step shows one page, with user interaction deciding the next step.

Taking the onboarding example again, your Welcome! page is the initial step. At the end of the page, you display buttons asking the user to specify their region. The button they click to identify their region determines what should be displayed as the next step.
