How are top 5 and bottom 5 performers established?

The top 5 performers are the five companies in your selection with the highest % EBIT or % EBITDA (depending on your settings) in the most recent year for which we have data for at least 55% of companies in your selection. Conversely, the bottom 5 performers are the five companies in your selection with the lowest % EBIT or % EBITDA in your selection. We use the 55% rule to ensure that the top 5 and bottom 5 performers paint a representative picture of your selection of companies. For example, if you have 25 companies in your portal, we’ll show the top 5 and bottom 5 for the most recent year for which we have data for at least 14 companies (14/25 = 56%, while 13/25 = 52%)

What is the Performance Indicator?

The Performance Indicator ranks performance based on profitability into three groups: Top 5 performers, Above average, and Below average. It is calculated on the basis of the unweighted profitability of the companies in your selection, meaning every company in the set contributes evenly. The Performance Indicator is calculated when at least 55% of companies in your selection have data available for the year in question to ensure it paints a representative picture of performance. The five companies with the highest profitability margins (EBIT or EBITDA depending on your settings) will receive the ‘Top 5 performer’ indicator. The rest of the companies will either be above or below average, where average is the unweighted average % EBIT or % EBITDA (depending on your settings) of the companies in your set.
