Benchmarks is meant to unlock a deeper level of insight by combining all of the individual datapoints of the companies in your selection. We've done the dirty work of cleaning, preparing and presenting the data, so you can focus on what matters: Translating our data and insights into impact on your business

Overview page & Use cases

The Benchmarks section is structured along the same chapters as the Companies section, with an important difference: Each section has several pre-set use cases, which serve as a great place to start benchmarking.

On the Benchmarks overview page, you'll see the different use cases, and links to each of them. Each use case contains one or more visuals specific, which are all completely customizable to your needs.

The following use cases are available:

Net sales:

  • Identify fastest growers

  • Analyze market share development

  • Investigate profitable growth

  • Assess employee productivity

Profitability:

  • Compare profit and costs

  • Break down margin developments

Returns:

  • Analyze asset productivity

  • Explore capital efficiency

Investments:

  • Compare net capex

Financial health:

  • Analyze solvency and liquidity

  • Connect debt and profit

  • Examine operational cash generation

Working capital:

  • Decode cash conversion dynamics

  • Examine working capital

For example, the use case Analyze market share development allows you to analyze how the total net sales pool has developed over time, and how every company's share has developed over the same period, allowing you to quickly see who's won and lost share.

Chart guidance & Glossary

Some graphs can be a little harder to grasp. For such visuals, chart guidance is available at the bottom of the graph:

For an overview of the definitions of the different individual KPIs, please refer to the Glossary.

Top 5 pre-sets and customization options

Each section comes with a pre-set Top 5. Depending on the selection, this Top 5 is based on different metrics:

  • Net sales: Based on the fastest % net sales development over time

  • Profitability: Based on the highest % EBIT(DA) in the most recent year

  • Returns: Based on the highest return on assets in the most recent year

  • Investments: Based on the highest average net capex as a percentage of net sales over time

  • Financial health: Based on the highest average solvency over time

  • Working capital: Based on the lowest average cash conversion cycle over time

By default, the top 5 is selected when you start a new session. This is indicated by the orange button in the Controls menu on the right side of your screen. If you want to create your own comparison, you can clear the selection by clicking on the button on the right, and start making your own selections.

Similarly, the years in scope are pre-set as well. You can however easily set your own year range, thereby tailoring each graph to the right time period.

You'll quickly see that the entire section has become dynamic and interactive, allowing you to make changes to the companies, years and metrics you’re looking at in a matter of seconds.

Lists

A powerful feature of Benchmarks is not only to be able to benchmark different companies, but also groups of companies by making use of the List functionality.

The list functionality allows you to group together different companies in a list. Subsequently, you can use this list throughout the Benchmarks section. Compare different lists with each other, or even mix in individual companies.
