October Beta Release Update (Release 1.13.1)

There have been lots of new updates to Your Local Net Zero Hub recently!

Together, these updates support a range of planning activities, including:

  • baselining existing technologies in your area,

  • heat decarbonisation,

  • non-domestic rooftop PV deployment and

  • publicising your plans.

Alongside this, there are new interfaces and training materials to help you get the most out of Your Local Net Zero Hub.

Here’s a summary of the latest major updates since July:

  1. A new Home Page. We’ve reformatted the Home Page to make it easier to navigate, including adding quick links to ‘how to’ articles about different use cases the Hub can help with like Flexibility, Rooftop PV and more.

  2. A new Data Stories interface. This big update brings loads of new functionality, including:

    1. the ability to publish data stories to a publicly accessible web page,

    2. the ability to add buttons and custom questions for your data story viewers to answer,

    3. a new interface to view the responses to your questions and

    4. UI improvements to make navigation and design easier.

  3. More online training materials.

    1. We’ve got product tours for key components like Data Stories, Scenarios, and Stakeholder Engagement. Just login and navigate to the components to automatically trigger a tour.

    2. If you prefer video content, we’ve updated the Knowledge base with dozens of new guidance videos. Just login, click on the orange message icon in the Hub and go to ‘Help’ to search the Knowledgebase.

  4. We’ve introduced an on-screen button to control the level of zoom on a map. You can continue to use your mouse wheel or trackpad if you prefer.

  5. A big update to Rooftop PV Potential. This dataset has been expanded beyond domestic properties and now provides coverage for domestic and non-domestic properties.

  6. Interested in what low carbon technologies are already installed in your area? UK Power Networks have provided several new datasets to help build a picture of your current baseline:

    1. View the updated Low Carbon Technology Connections by Primary and Secondary Substation for a view of the existing low carbon technologies connected to our substations.

    2. Or check out the new Embedded Capacity Register <1MW dataset which provides insights into generation assets under a megawatt logged on the embedded capacity register.

  7. Want to know more about the data in the Hub? We also introduced Metadata for all datasets in the platform. This is accessible by clicking on the ‘i’ icon next to each dataset’s name on the Map. This includes information about license type, publication date and several more fields aligned with the Dublin Core Metadata Standard.

  8. In case you missed it. In August, we introduced two new datasets to help with heat decarbonisation: Heat Network Key Development Regions, provided by Element Energy, and Gas Network Topology, provided by Cadent and SGN. Check out those release notes here: Release 1.12.0.

Let us know what you think!

These updates are due to the learning that we have made based on your involvement in the Beta and the feedback that we have gathered so far. Your feedback is invaluable to continue to evolve the functionality and data to meet your needs.

If there are datasets, use cases or tools you would like to see made available in Your Local Net Zero Hub – let us know via the Live Chat in the Hub or by upvoting on our new public roadmap (Your Local Net Zero Hub - Planning Tool Roadmap | Trello) which details our development plan for the Hub.
