Refer a Friend code not applied at checkout, what can I do?

Troubleshooting steps for when your Refer a Friend code won't apply at checkout, including how to verify minimum spend, eligibility, and code validity.

If your Refer a Friend code hasn't applied at checkout, check these things in order:

1. Verify Your Order Meets the Minimum Spend

Refer a Friend codes only work on orders over £60.

How to check: Look at your basket total before you enter the code. If your total is below £60, add more products to reach at least £60, then try applying the code again.

2. Confirm This Is Your First Huel Order

Refer a Friend codes can only be used by new customers placing their first Huel order. If you've ordered from Huel before, the referral code won't apply, even if you haven't used one previously.

How to check: If you're not sure whether you've ordered before, log into your Huel Account and go to Order History. If you see any previous orders listed, you're not eligible for the referral code. In this case, contact us and we may be able to help.

3. Check the Code Has Not Expired

Refer a Friend codes are time-limited and usually valid for 90 days from the date you received the code. After the expiry date, the code cannot be used or reactivated.

How to check: Find the email or message where you received the referral code. It should state the expiry date. If today's date is after that date, the code has expired and cannot be applied.

4. Make Sure Only One Code Is Applied

Only one discount code can be applied per order. If you've already applied a different discount code or promotion, the Refer a Friend code won't stack on top of it.

How to check: On the checkout page, look at your Order Summary. If you see a discount already applied (showing a reduced total), you'll need to remove that code first before applying the Refer a Friend code.

How to remove a code: Find the code displayed in your Order Summary and click the X or Remove button next to it. Then enter your Refer a Friend code and click Apply.

5. Re-Enter the Code Carefully

Sometimes codes don't apply due to typos or extra spaces.

How to fix this:

  1. Go back to the Discount Code box at checkout

  2. Delete the code completely

  3. Copy and paste the code directly from the email where you received it (or type it very carefully, character by character)

  4. Make sure there are no spaces before or after the code

  5. Click Apply
