How does billing work with smarta?

Two types of services – two types of invoices

At smarta, we distinguish between:

  • Ongoing services
    These are the monthly fees based on your chosen smarta plan.

  • One-time services
    These include any additional services outside your plan, such as a signed BWA, an income tax form (e.g. Anlage N), or investment advice.

These two service types are billed separately. So if both apply in a given month, you may receive two invoices.

When is billing done?

  • Ongoing services:
    Always billed on the 1st of the month, regardless of your signup date. The basis is your active smarta plan.

  • One-time services:
    Billed in the following month – for example, a certificate or tax return requested in July will be invoiced in August.

Payment options

SEPA direct debit (recommended)

If you've submitted a SEPA mandate, we’ll automatically collect the amount via our payment provider GoCardless.
This is the easiest and most secure option – no further steps required.

Bank transfer

You can also transfer the invoice amount manually. Please use the following bank details:

Important: Always include the invoice number as the payment reference to ensure correct allocation.

What costs what?

All prices for ongoing and one-time services are listed in the official smarta price list:

Examples of typical one-time services:

  • Signed BWA or certificate: €49

  • Income tax form Anlage N (employment): €99

  • Consulting on car use or investments: €120/hr

  • Anlage V+V (rental income): €120/hr

  • Appeals against tax notices: €120/hr

Changes from August 2025

Until July 2025, ongoing fees were debited by Ageras GmbH via your Kontist business account.


Since August 2025, billing is handled entirely by smarta:

  • Invoices now come directly from smarta Steuerberatungsgesellschaft mbH

  • Charges are debited by smarta (if a SEPA mandate exists)

  • Ongoing and one-time services continue to be billed separately

Your service scope remains unchanged.

Not using your Kontist account anymore?

No problem – smarta works with any business bank account.
If you’d like to update your bank details or issue a new SEPA mandate, that’s easy to do.
