As a translator assigned to one or more languages, you will utilize Lokalise to manage and update translations. Upon logging into your Lokalise account, you will have access to two primary projects:
SameSystem Check-In: This project contains strings for the mobile application.
Web App - System Strings: This project contains strings for the web application.
Your main workspace within these projects is the Editor, where all strings are displayed. Here, you can directly add or edit translations for your designated language(s).
Please note: Editing the "English" source strings is not permitted.
Glossary management
Maintaining an up-to-date Glossary is crucial. The Glossary, accessible from the top bar within each project, serves as a repository for key terms and their approved translations. It aids in providing consistent translation suggestions and enhances AI-assisted translations. We also use to prevent forbidden words to appear in the system.
To update the Glossary:
Navigate to the Glossary section in the top menu.
Click on a term card and navigate to Translations and descriptions and provide the correct term for your language.
Save the entry.
Please note: It's possible to add new terms, but reach out to one of the responsible for Lokalise to know more.
Regularly updating the Glossary ensures consistency and assists AI in generating accurate translations.
AI-assisted translations
At times, especially when introducing a new language, AI will be employed to translate existing strings to expedite the process and reduce manual workload. However, it's imperative for translators to review these AI-generated translations, particularly for critical strings, to correct any potential inaccuracies.
Reviewing strings
In the Web App - System Strings project, after adding or editing a translation, it's essential to mark the string as Reviewed:
Locate the string in the Editor.
Click on the Review icon (represented by glasses).
Only reviewed strings will be integrated into SameSystem. Once reviewed, the string will be included in the next deployment when a developer pushes a pull request to production (meaning that it will happen automatically and can be expected either same or next day).
Utilizing filters and search
To efficiently navigate and manage strings in Lokalise, utilize the Filter and Search functionalities.
Filtering strings:
In the Editor, click on the Filter dropdown.
Choose from predefined filters - especially the "Untranslated" option can be helpful.
Apply the filter to display the relevant strings.
Searching for strings:
Use the Search box located in the top right corner of the Editor.
Enter the term or string you're looking for.
Utilize options like Exact match or Case sensitive to refine your search.
This is especially helpful if you are looking to change a specific term and you have to locate all the relevant strings.
