Install the device in 10 easy steps!
The package you've received from Mapon contains:
The Mapon Expert device with a GPS antenna
VR cable
Instruments for removing the tachograph
Tape for securing the device
Mapon is not responsible for errors that occurred before or after the installation of the device, as a non-contact data reader is used to read the data.
1. Check for errors: Start the engine and inspect the tachograph and vehicle dashboard for any error messages. If no errors are displayed, turn off the ignition and proceed with the installation.
2. Remove the tachograph: Insert the tachograph removal tools, carefully remove the tachograph, and inspect the yellow connector for any damage or disconnection. If a disconnection occurs, the tachograph will need to be recalibrated.
If you notice any seals on the tachograph or have any trouble removing it, please reach out to a certified tachograph specialist for assistance.
3. Match and connect the cables: Disconnect the following connectors from the tachograph and connect them to the corresponding connectors on the cable:
Brown Connector (D): Insert the brown connector into the tachograph slot located to the right of the red connector.
Red Connector (C): Remove the red connector from the tachograph (if it is installed). Plug it into the red connector on the cable, then insert the corresponding cable connector into the tachograph.
White Connector (A): Press the plastic catch to remove the white connector from the tachograph. Plug it into the white connector on the cable, then insert the corresponding cable connector into the tachograph.
4. Disassemble the dashboard: Remove the plastic trim around the instrument panel, unscrew the screws securing the frames, and take off the dashboard frame. Remove the rivets in the indicated place, and unscrew the screws holding the dashboard.
5. Connect the CAN-CLICK module: Find the yellow and green twisted wires in the specified area. Untwist the vehicle's yellow and green wires to create approximately 5-6 cm of access for the contactless reader. Connect the yellow wire to CAN H and the green wire to CAN L on the Quasar MCB-CLICK-CAN. Secure the wires using the provided plastic cable ties.
For Volvo FL/FE and Renault D
Place the yellow wire on the side with device markings.
For Renault D ( if green connector not present)
Place the yellow wire on the side with device markings.
6. Route extension cable: Carefully remove the plastic panel from the side pillar. Thoughtfully route the extension CAN-click cable from the tachograph to the dashboard and then connect it to the CAN-click.
Ensure the power cables are positioned to not interfere with the driver!
7. Connect to the device: Attach the black connectors to the Mapon Expert tracking device.
8. Turn the ignition and handle the messages: Turn the vehicle’s ignition further. If a power interruption message appears on the tachograph, follow the instructions to clear it.
9. Check the connection and register the device:
Go to mapon.com/services to check the device connection and perform the tachograph connection test.

Please note that the ignition must be turned on to check the tacho connection.
10. Finish the installation: Verify that the orange and green LEDs light up once to confirm a successful installation. Place the GPS antenna (magnet side down) — Best: on the roof centre, face-up. If installed inside, place it on top of the dashboard near the windshield, close to the centre (not under the dashboard). Secure the Mapon Expert device with a zip tie or tape.
After a successful installation, log in to your Mapon account via www.mapon.com/new. There, you’ll see the registered unit with the device’s serial number in the Map section. Click on the vehicle, then on three dots, choose Vehicle settings to change the number of the vehicle, and fill out its technical information.
