How to set up gifting budgets for your teams

Empower managers and employees to play their part in gift-led recognition with gifting budgets

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Definition

Gifting budgets let you allocate a set amount of spend to teams or individuals so they can send gifts without approval delays. Budgets help you control costs while giving people the freedom to recognise others in the moment.

What is it?

A gifting budget or recognition budget is a pre-defined amount of funds assigned to a team or person for giving gifts through the platform. It helps structure and control spend across your organisation.

Why does it matter?

Budgets help you manage costs, avoid overspend, and empower teams to recognise contributions without admin overhead. It’s key for running consistent recognition or rewards programmes.

How does it work?

  1. Decide who needs a budget
Choose who should be able to send gifts, such as managers, customer-facing teams, or everyone in your organisation.

  2. Create a new budget
Go to Budgets in the navigation and click Create a budget. Give it a clear, recognisable name.

  3. Set the budget amount
Choose whether everyone receives the same amount, or not, and how much each participant receives per period (for example, £100).

  4. Choose when budgets are received
Add a start date and the date of the second and ongoing payments.

  5. Decide how budgets refresh
Choose whether unused budget rolls over into the next period or resets to zero.

  6. Add gifting reasons
Set the reasons people can select when sending a gift, such as “Say thank you” or company values like kindness or honesty.

  7. Add participants
Invite the people who should receive the budget. Once added, they’ll be allocated their budget automatically.

  8. Review and publish
Check the programme details and invitation email, then click Publish to make the budget live.

Common pitfalls / misconceptions

  • Budgets don’t auto-allocate themselves - they must be set per team or person.

  • Tracking redemption helps ensure budgets are used effectively.
