Accidentally mixing up or switching the order of the tubes during a breath test (SIBO, sorbitol, lactose intolerance, or fructose intolerance) can happen - don’t worry. Here’s what you need to know depending on your situation.
If you have already sent the samples
Once your samples have been sent to the lab, we unfortunately can’t make any changes or correct the order.
The lab will evaluate the samples and, in some cases, may notice and correct the order themselves during analysis. If not, you’ll still be able to interpret your results correctly:
The first tube always represents the baseline sample, taken before drinking the solution or using the sachet. This should in theory be lower than the rest of the values and should therefore be easier to catch in the report.
By identifying this first sample in the report, you can keep that in mind when reviewing your results.
If the lab detects any issue that makes it impossible to analyze the samples, we’ll be notified and will contact you directly.
If you have not yet sent the samples
If you haven’t mailed the samples yet, you have two options:
Request a replacement kit – We can send you a new breath test kit at half of the regular cost.
Send the samples as they are – You can still send the test, just keep in mind that the order might be incorrect when reading your results.
Summary
The lab may notice and correct mixed-up tubes.
If not, the first tube is always your baseline sample.
If the samples can’t be analyzed, we’ll contact you.
If you haven’t sent the samples yet, you can get a new kit at half price or send it as is.
