If you're experiencing issues taking your blood sample, here are a few helpful tips to make the process smoother and more comfortable.
Before you start:
Warm your hands: Soak your hand in warm water for a few minutes or run it under warm water. This increases circulation.
Stand up: Gravity helps! Standing up while collecting the sample can improve blood flow to your fingers.
Choosing the right finger:
Use the side of your ring finger or middle finger (avoid your thumb or index finger).
Switch hands if needed – sometimes one side flows better than the other.
During sampling:
Wipe away the first drop of blood after the finger prick – it may contain tissue fluid.
Gently massage or "milk" your finger from the base toward the tip. Don’t squeeze too hard – just firm pressure to help the blood flow.
Let the blood drop naturally onto the collection area – do not smear.
If blood flow slows:
Pause briefly, shake your hand below your heart, or warm your hand again.
Try another finger if needed (you can use more than one).
With your arm pointing down, move your shoulder up and down to stimulate blood flow.
With these tips, you'll increase your chances of collecting a strong and usable sample the first time around. If you run into any issues, don’t hesitate to contact our support — we’re happy to help!
