Step 3 of 8: Translate Drawings by Referencing Messages

B4.3: Referenced Messages instead of fix Text

Written by Alexandra Göttert

This is the core technique the rest of the tutorial builds on: referencing a message instead of typing fixed text into a drawing.

Prerequisites

  • The primary and secondary languages of the drawing are set.

Steps

1.) Select the proper message manufacturer. Via the Windows ribbon group in DigiPara Liftdesigner, select the proper message manufacturer from the list first.

2.) Copy the message translation reference. Copy the message translation reference via the item's context menu, or via the docking window toolbar's CF — Copy for Form action. DigiPara Liftdesigner then shows the related Message (DMSG_TEXT) — messages are referred to by their MSGNO_RID.

3.) Reference the message instead of fixed text. Use the message reference syntax to access the drawing language text, rather than typing fixed text:

  • Primary drawing language: External$("MSGGRP*.MSG*") — where External$("") indicates that a DigiPara Liftdesigner value gets referenced, MSGGRP* is the message manufacturer ID, and MSG* is the message record number.

  • Secondary drawing language: External$("MSGGRP*.MSG*#Secondary#") — the added "#Secondary#" retrieves the referenced secondary drawing language text instead of the primary one.

Result

Drawing text is now driven by a referenced message instead of fixed text, and automatically shows the correct primary or secondary language.
