Step 5 of 7: Develop the Upper Part of the Machine Bed

PL10.5: Add and define new Profiles in the Properties Window by using 3D Parameters

Written by Alexandra Göttert

After this step, the upper part of the machine bed will look like this:

Prerequisites

  • The machine bed's lower frame is fully modeled.

Steps

1.) Add a new profile. Under the Develop Products tab, click Add Profile. The new profile starts out positioned at the machine bed's base point.

2.) Change its shape to U-Type. Select the new profile and change its shape to U-Type in the properties window.

3.) Size the profile. Set DX to 146 + GFR_BEAM1_DY + GFR_BEAM2_DY (520 mm), DY to a fixed 68 mm, DZ to a fixed 180 mm, S to a fixed 10 mm, and T to a fixed 10 mm.

4.) Rotate the profile 90° (Rotate Z). Select the sized profile and click Rotate Z in the Develop Geometry group of the Develop Products tab.

5.) Position the profile. Set X0 to -194.5 - 0.5*PDY (-228.5 mm), Y0 to a fixed 0 mm, and Z0 to 270 + 0.5*PDZ (360 mm).

6.) Add a second new profile, change it to U-Type, and size it. Set DX to a fixed 575 mm, DY to a fixed 53 mm, DZ to a fixed 120 mm, S to a fixed 10 mm, and T to a fixed 10 mm.

7.) Position the second profile. Set X0 to a fixed 0 mm, Y0 to 193 + 0.5*PDY (219.5 mm), and Z0 to GFR_DZ - 0.5*PDZ (510 mm) — using the 3D parameter you defined for the complete machine bed height (GFR_DZ). "Update Product in Database" to save your progress at this point.

8.) Copy the finished upper profile (Profile 10). Select one of the finished profiles from the previous steps, press Ctrl+C then Ctrl+V. The new copy — check the Component Link Box in the properties window or the Breadcrumb above to confirm it's Profile 10 — starts with the same size and position as its source.

9.) Reposition Profile 10. Set X0 to 0.5*PDY + 219.5 (253.5 mm), Y0 to a fixed 0 mm, and Z0 to 0.5*PDZ + 270 (360 mm).

10.) Rotate Profile 10 by 180° (Rotate X). Set the angle to 180 and confirm, then select the profile and click Rotate X.

11.) Copy again (Profile 11), reposition, and rotate 180°. Select the next finished profile, Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V to create Profile 11, then set X0 to a fixed 0 mm, Y0 to -0.5*PDY + 104 (77.5 mm), and Z0 to GFR_DZ - 0.5*PDZ (510 mm). Select the copied profile and click Rotate X. Update Product in the Database.

Result

The machine bed's upper part — two U-Type cross-members and their two mirrored, rotated copies — is fully modeled.
