Step 8 of 13: Set Individual LOD Levels for the CAD Model and Liftdesigner Components

PL5.8: Set individual LOD Settings for your CAD Occurrences and Profiles

Written by Alexandra Göttert

Prerequisites

  • The CAD model, user component, and variable profiles all exist on the gear.

Steps

1.) Plan the target LOD visibility. For this gear, the target behavior is:

  • LOD 100 and LOD 200: only the sheaves are visible.

  • LOD 300: only the Liftdesigner profiles (user component and variable profiles) are visible — the CAD model is not visible.

  • LOD ≥ 350 (view details): the CAD model is visible, and the Liftdesigner profiles are not visible.

Setting appropriate LOD levels protects intellectual property by simplifying components for lower LODs, and keeps 3D elevator exports and planning drawings from becoming unnecessarily complex.

2.) Set the Level of Development for the CAD model. Configure the CAD model's LOD display settings so it's only visible at LOD ≥ 350, matching the plan above.

3.) Set the Level of Development for the Liftdesigner user component and profiles. Configure the LOD display settings for the user component and the variable profiles so they're visible at LOD 300 but not at LOD ≥ 350.

4.) Save the finished BIM component. Save the gear, with its new LOD settings, into the DigiPara BIM Library.

Result

The gear now shows only its sheaves at the lowest LODs, simplified native profiles at LOD 300, and the full CAD model only at higher LODs — matching the intended level of detail at each stage — and this is saved into the library.
