Should I sauna before or after my treatment?

Written by Veronika Fernandez

Combining a sauna session with a treatment can be a lovely way to make the most of your time with us. Whether you should sauna before or after depends on the treatment, the season and in some cases, your individual circumstances.

Massage, osteopathy, reiki, energy therapy and craniosacral therapy:
You can sauna either before or after your treatment if you feel up to it. If you sauna before your treatment, the warmth can be a lovely way to help you relax and settle into your session. If you sauna after your treatment, you can use the heat as a gentle way to continue unwinding and relaxing afterwards.

During autumn and winter, we recommend using the sauna after your treatment rather than before. This is because our sauna experience can include a cold plunge. Finishing with a cold plunge lowers your body's core temperature, and during a treatment your body may not be able to warm itself back up as easily while you are lying still.

For this reason, it's best to have your treatment first and enjoy the sauna afterwards. This allows you to finish your visit feeling warm and relaxed.

Holistic Facial

We recommend you sauna before your treatment. The warmth of the sauna is a great way to prepare your skin for a facial, helping you get ready for the treatment. However, we don't recommend using the sauna after your treatment since the heat and sweat can remove or interfere with the products applied during your treatment.

Pregnancy Massage

We advise against using the sauna in keeping with our current sauna and pregnancy guidelines. If you're pregnant and have any questions about combining treatments with your visit to the sauna, please speak to your GP before booking.
