Internal Transfers: How to Send Crypto to Other Coinmetro Users

Written by Sophie
Updated over 3 months ago

Coinmetro's Internal Transfers feature allows eligible users to transfer certain cryptoassets to other Coinmetro users using an off-chain process within the Coinmetro platform. Transfers can be made to existing Coinmetro users or to individuals who are not yet registered, subject to applicable terms, conditions, and verification requirements.

This article explains who you can send crypto to, how the process works, and what to expect when using Internal Transfers.

πŸ‘₯ Who Can I Send Crypto To?

You can send eligible cryptoassets to:

  • Existing Coinmetro users, using their @UserTag, registered email address, or linked phone number

  • Non-registered users, using an email address or phone number

If the recipient is not yet a Coinmetro user, they will be notified via email or SMS and asked to register and complete account verification before they can claim the funds.

Important note for UK residents: Internal Transfers are unavailable to UK residents for regulatory reasons. Transfers sent to UK users will not be credited and will be returned to the sender automatically.

πŸ“€ How to Make an Internal Transfer

To make an internal transfer:

  1. Open the Coinmetro mobile app.

  2. Ensure your Coinmetro account is fully verified. This is a requirement for all transactions on the platform. Simply log in to your account and complete the verification process if you haven't already.

  3. From the home screen, tap Transfer.

  4. Tap Send.

  5. Enter the recipient's @UserTag, email address, or phone number.

  6. Select the cryptoasset you want to send. Please note that stablecoins are currently not enabled for internal transfers.

  7. Enter the amount.

  8. Review that all information is correct, and tap Confirm to complete the transfer.

Important: Internal Transfers are available via the Coinmetro mobile app only.

πŸ” Transfers to Non-Registered Users

When you send funds to someone who doesn't yet have a Coinmetro account:

  1. Funds are held off-chain within Coinmetro.

  2. The recipient is notified via email or SMS with instructions on how to register, complete verification, and claim the transfer.

  3. The recipient must complete registration and account verification within 7 days. If the transfer is not claimed within this period, the funds are automatically returned to the sender.

This process helps protect users and supports regulatory and security requirements.

πŸ’Έ Fees for Internal Transfers

There is no fee charged by Coinmetro for Internal Transfers. As transfers are processed off-chain, blockchain network fees do not apply.

⚠️ Important Things to Know

  • Transfers to existing Coinmetro users are processed immediately and cannot be reversed.

  • Transfers to non-registered users are held securely until claimed or returned.

  • Unclaimed transfers are automatically returned after the expiry period.

  • Wallet addresses are not used for Internal Transfers.

  • Only eligible cryptoassets (excluding stablecoins) can be transferred.

If the recipient does not create an account and complete verification within 7 days, the funds are returned to the sender automatically.

πŸ“¨ How the Recipient Gets Notified

Depending on the contact details provided, the recipient may receive a notification by:

  • Email

  • SMS

  • WhatsApp

Existing Coinmetro users will also receive an in-app notification. Notifications provide instructions on how to proceed, but do not guarantee that funds will be claimed.

πŸ›‘οΈ Security and Compliance

To help protect users and comply with regulatory obligations, Internal Transfers include:

  • Clear Coinmetro branding in notifications

  • Secure communication methods

  • Identity verification requirements

  • Automated return of unclaimed funds

Users should always verify that communications are genuinely from Coinmetro. This ensures a safe, transparent experience for both the sender and the recipient.

🀝 Referral Program Integration

If applicable, Internal Transfers to non-registered users may be linked to the Coinmetro Referral Program. Any referral-related benefits are subject to separate terms and eligibility criteria and are not guaranteed.

Please note: The Referral Program is not available to Coinmetro users residing in the UK.
