MakerDAO has transitioned from MKR to SKY as part of its rebrand and token upgrade. Coinmetro fully supported this migration to ensure a smooth experience for all users.

This article explains the key dates and what changed.

📅 Migration Roadmap: MKR → SKY

Here’s everything you need to know:

  • 11 Sept 2025 – 20:00 UTC: Trading and deposits for MKR were paused.

  • 12 Sept 2025: Any remaining open MKR trades were closed automatically.

  • 16 Sept 2015 - 23:59 UTC: Withdrawals for MKR were suspended.

  • 22 Sept 2025 – 12:00 UTC: SKY was listed on Coinmetro, and all remaining MKR balances were automatically converted to SKY at a 1:24,000 ratio. This means for every 1 MKR token you owned, you received 24,000 SKY. Deposits, withdrawals, and trading for SKY have now been fully enabled.

ℹ️ Why the Change?

The move from MKR to SKY marks the next step in the evolution of the Maker Protocol. By rebranding as Sky Protocol, the project aims to simplify DeFi governance, bring everything under one clear governance token, and make the ecosystem easier to use for wider adoption. The migration also unlocks new benefits such as staking rewards for SKY holders, and supports the protocol’s expansion across multiple blockchains.

✅ Do I Need to Do Anything?

No action is required. If you held MKR on Coinmetro, your balance was automatically converted to SKY at a 1:24,000 ratio. This means for every 1 MKR token you owned, you received 24,000 SKY.
