On the Coinmetro Margin Platform, you’ll see a metric called Open P/L (Profit/Loss) displayed with green or red numbers next to it. On other exchanges, this may also be called Unrealized P/L or Floating P/L.

💡 Understanding Open P/L

Open P/L represents the profit or loss of your currently active trades. It shows the value you would “realize” if you were to close your open positions at that moment.

It’s also called Floating P/L because the value is constantly changing while your positions remain open

🔄 How Open P/L Works

Your Open P/L fluctuates in real time with market prices. For example:

  • If your trade is currently profitable, your Open P/L will show a green number.

  • If the market moves against your position, your Open P/L can turn red, reflecting an unrealized loss.

This live metric gives you a clear picture of your potential profits or losses while your positions are still active.

🧮 Why Open P/L Matters

Monitoring Open P/L is important because it:

  • Helps you track trade performance in real time.

  • Allows you to make informed decisions about when to close a position.

  • Impacts your account equity, which in turn affects your free margin and ability to open new trades.

💡 Tip: Always keep an eye on Open P/L during volatile markets — rapid fluctuations can affect your margin requirements.

📍 Where to Find Open P/L

Open P/L is displayed both on the Margin Platform under Exposure, and on your Dashboard underneath your asset portfolio.

⚖️ Open P/L vs Realized P/L

It’s important to understand the difference:

  • Open P/L: For active positions, changes with live market prices.

  • Realized P/L: Locked in once a trade is closed, showing the actual profit or loss.

This distinction helps you track potential vs actual earnings.
