DataSources can be created in two ways:

  1. One at a time as a Site/Asset Attribute DataSource or Watcher DataSource

  2. Bulk addition of Data Point DataSources

One at a time

DataSources can be created one at a time by clicking the "New DataSource" in the "List Attributes" section of the Site/Asset Attribute Tab, or the "Manage Datasources" section of the Watcher configuration. This method allows you to create any type of DataSource.

Clicking this button launches the DataSource Creation modal which first asks the user to configure the common components across all DataSources:

  • Name: The name of the DataSource

  • Quantity: The quantity the DataSource represents. Note: the Quantity cannot be changed after the DataSource has been created

  • Subject: The Subject of the DataSource

  • Default Fold: The default fold applied to this DataSource (e.g. Average, Sum, Max etc)

  • Tags: The tags applied to the DataSource

  • Type: the Type of the DataSource

Common DataSource configuration options

When the user selects the type of the DataSource, the lower section of the DataSource create model updates to show the specific configuration options for the DataSource Type.

Bulk addition of Data Point DataSources

Data Point Datasources are often added in a large volume as part of onboarding data feeds into the CoolPlanetOS system. To facilitate this, the Asset and Site Attribute list screens have a bulk Data Point bulk add feature under the Actions menu beside the "New DataSource" button.

"Add Data Points" action menu options

Clicking the "Add Data Points" menu option launches the Data Point Search modal. This modal allows a number of Data Points to be added from the same screen by simply clicking each Data Point you wish to add as an attribute. Once a Data Point has been added to as an attribute, a counter of the Data Point's uses within the asset/site is updated in the right most column. Once all of the required Data Points have been added, the modal can be closed by clicking on the "X" in the upper right.
