Overview
A Timeslice datasource allows a user to create a datasource that is made up of data from multiple Data Points. The user can specify the Data Points they wish to combine and also prioritise what Data Points are used for different periods.
An example of when to use a Timeslice Datasource is when a site has been acquiring data from their energy bills and this is saved in a Data Point and they then install a new meter on site to record the same information. The new meter will populate a new Data Point as it has a different source of Information. A user then wants to keep the historic data (bills) and continue with the new data (on-site meter). A Timeslice Datasource is then used to combine these two sources and view all of the Data Point History in a single Datasource.
How to Create a Timeslice Datasource
To create a timeslice datasource the user should navigate to the Attributes section of the UI. This can be the Site-level Attributes or Asset-level Attributes.
The user then selects the "Add New Datasource" button.
This opens a Datasource creation window where the user gives the datasource a Name, Quantity, and Default Fold and selects the Type as “Timeslice”.
A Timeslice can only be created with "Numeric" Data Points of the same "Quantity" and that belong to the same "Site".
Once “Timeslice” has been selected the user can then add the data points they wish to combine to create the Datasource. This is done by clicking on the “Select Data Points” button to display the “Data Point Search” modal.
The user can search for the Data Points using the filters available:
Data Point Name
Type
Purpose
Unit
Remote ID
Up to a maximum of 5 Data points can be combined to create a Timeslice Datasource.
The user selects the required Data Points. The usage column displays what points have been selected.
The Data points are added to the table in the order that they are selected from the modal. They can be reordered if required using drag and drop.
The Data points are given a “Start Date” of the same date as their date of first data point history. This can be edited if necessary using the date selector.
The “End Date” is initially left blank. When blank the data point will be considered up until today’s date. This can be edited if necessary using the date selector.
The Data Points at the top of the list have a higher priority than those beneath them. If two points have overlapping dates then the point above will take priority over the following point. If a Data Point has no data for a specific period, the data from the next Data Point in the list will be used instead.
Once the user has made the necessary configuration changes to the Datasource they can create the Datasource by simply clicking the "Create" button at the bottom of the modal.
The Datasource is now available to use on the Site or Asset to create visualisations in the same way all other Datasources can be used throughout the platform.
