How to return a standard envelope to the sender

Warning

This article applies exclusively to the Standard envelope, and its rules do not necessarily apply to Egypt ACI envelopes, HMM eBL, MPCI filings or ADC filings.

If you find a problem with one of the received documents – especially for documents with transfer of ownership on blockchain like a bill of lading – the only way to amend them is to return them to the issuer through the CargoX Platform.

Note

You can only return standard envelopes, as ACI envelopes cannot be returned. Also, the documents within the envelope that were already finalized (released/accomplished or destroyed) cannot be returned anymore.

If you need to return the envelope to the sender:

1. Open the envelope and start the return process

Press the Return to sender button and this will immediately create a new draft envelope.

2. Edit the envelope

The envelope will contain all documents from the received envelope but you can still:

  1. change the recipient: the party that sent you the document will be set as the receiver of the new envelope. This might not be the same party as the document’s original issuer.

  2. add documents to this envelope.

  3. remove documents from this envelope.

  4. add a message explaining why you are returning the envelope and providing further instructions to the recipient.

3. Seal the envelope

More information about sealing the envelope can be found here (please follow the procedure from step 4 onwards).

Info

For the documents that were sent to you don’t need to fill out the document properties as this was already done.

4. Transfer the envelope

Info

There are no costs associated with returning documents, as they were already paid for by the issuer (or the first recipient).

Danger

Be careful what you send, as you are passing the ownership title of all included documents back to the sender. Inspect information about the issuer of the document and double-check the recipient before sending the envelope, as all transfers on the blockchain are final and irreversible.
