How messaging costs work

SMS and WhatsApp are billed on usage while everything else is covered by your subscription, and campaign volume is what moves the number.

Most of what you do in Bookboost costs nothing extra. Email, web chat, and the platform itself are covered by your subscription. SMS and WhatsApp are the exceptions: they are billed on usage, so the more you send the more you pay, and the amount changes every month.

Charges are per property. Each hotel is billed on its own volume, not pooled across the group.

What drives the cost

  • Campaigns, more than conversations. Journeys and Broadcasts are what move the number. A property answering guests reactively in the Inbox spends far less than one running full mobile journeys.

  • Room count. With the same campaigns running, a larger property sends more messages simply because it has more guests. Expect its bill to be proportionally higher.

  • Occupancy. Fewer guests means fewer messages, so a quiet month costs less without you changing anything.

  • Channel. SMS has one flat rate per message. WhatsApp varies by template type and by the guest's country, so the same campaign can cost different amounts to different guests.

What this does not do

  • No spending cap. There is no setting that stops sending when a budget is reached. Controlling cost means controlling how many messages your campaigns send.

  • Failed messages still count. A message that is attempted but not delivered is charged, so a campaign to a list with bad phone numbers costs the same as one to a clean list.

  • The bill is calculated afterwards. Usage charges are invoiced at the end of the billing period, once the messages have been counted, so you cannot see the final figure in advance.
