Save time with content blocks

Reuse a styled snippet across campaigns, and update every campaign by editing it once.

If the same door code instructions, cancellation policy, or promotional footer appears in a dozen campaigns, a content block means you change it in one place and every campaign picks it up. Without one, you are editing a dozen campaigns by hand and hoping you did not miss one.

What a content block is

A content block is a reusable snippet you insert into campaigns using a token. It is built in the same drag-and-drop editor as an email campaign, so anything you can design in a campaign you can design in a block.

In the editor the block appears as a token, for example {{content_block('your-block-name')}}, rather than as the content itself. Use Preview on the campaign to see what it will actually look like.

Content blocks work in email campaigns only. They are not supported in SMS or WhatsApp.

What to use them for

  • Door code instructions.

  • Parking descriptions, including in several languages.

  • Policy summaries such as cancellation rules or check-in times.

  • Promotional banners, headers, and footers.

  • Room descriptions shared across upselling and confirmation campaigns.

Creating a content block

  1. Go to Campaigns from the main menu and click Content blocks.

  2. Click + in the top-right corner.

Click on Add new content block

  3. Fill in Title. It is required, it is for internal use, and guests never see it. It is also what you will be scanning down when you come back to find this block in six months, so name it for what it is rather than for the campaign you happen to be building today.

    Click on Title

  4. Optionally assign a Category. The field reads "Create or select a category", so you can pick an existing one or type a new one. Categories are what the list filters by, and they are worth using once you have more than a handful of blocks.

  5. Design the block on the canvas, exactly as you would an email. See The email editor: a tour.

  6. Click Save.

    Creating a new content block

There is no block type to choose. A block is not a text block or an image block or a button block. It is a small design, and it can hold rows, images, buttons, tables and anything else in the palette, in any combination.

Two controls in the bottom bar are worth knowing about:

  • Digital Reception puts a form inside the block, which means a form can be maintained in one place and reused across campaigns the same way text can.

  • Token inserts a guest or reservation token, so a block can personalise itself rather than being the same words for everybody.

Export Design and Import Design work here too, so a block can be copied from a design you have already built.

This editor has no Auto Save. Press Save before you leave, because nothing is stored until you do.

Finding a block again

The Content blocks list has two columns, Title and Categories. Click the Title heading to sort. Above the list is a Categories filter with a Reset beside it, and at the bottom a Per page control and the page count.

Inserting a block into a campaign

  1. Open the campaign where you want the block, and go to the email editor.

  2. Click Content Blocks in the bar underneath the canvas.

Selecting Content Blocks in the editor

  3. Copy the block you want.

    Click on Luxyrt Double Room…

  4. Paste the token where the content should appear, for example {{content_block('luxury-double-room-description')}}.

  5. Click Preview to see the full content and layout.

Content Blocks in that bar is not the same thing as the Blocks tab on the right-hand rail. Blocks are saved rows that get pasted into the design as editable content. A content block stays a single token, and editing the block later changes every campaign that uses it. That difference is the whole point of a content block, and it is the reason to reach for one rather than a saved row. See Reuse your designs with Blocks.

Using blocks in several languages

Create a separate block per language, naming them so the language is obvious, for example luxury-double-room-description-german and luxury-double-room-description-english. Then use guest language segments, or the campaign's own language versions, to serve the right one.

Styling a block

  • Body width. Set the same width across blocks, for example 600px, so they line up when used together.

  • Alignment. Left alignment reads best in email.

  • Background colour. Use it to match your brand or to highlight something.

What this does not do

  • Tokens do not render in the editor. You will see the token, not the content. Use Preview.

  • Email only. Content blocks are not supported in SMS or WhatsApp campaigns.

  • Blocks do not enforce consistency between themselves. If two blocks use different body widths, background colours, or alignment, they will look mismatched when placed in the same campaign.

  • A block cannot contain another block. The block editor has no Content Blocks button.

Getting help

Open Talk to Us in the left menu of the platform, or email support@bookboost.io. Tell us the block name and the campaign you are using it in.
