The Self-Witness dashboard tile is designed to advise you of instances where a medication which requires witnessing has been self-witnessed by a member of staff. The headline of the tile will show you the number of instances that day. It will always start at 0 and may rise throughout the day as devices are synced

When clicking 'View Items', you will be shown the individual administrations for that day where self witnessing has occurred showing the time, resident, medication, stock, due time, barcode number (If applicable), and staff member recorded as administrator and witness.

To view previous dates, please press the calendar icon on the right of the date selection box and select the required date. You can also filter by unit additionally

Please Note: This tile will only show administrations that have been self witnessed for medications requiring a witness such as Controlled Drugs. it will not show drug changes made or unit selections changed on the device. The entries will not clear on this tile as it is an advisory tile rather than an actionable tile.

It is not mandatory, but good practice to have a second signature of a witness present while administering controlled drugs (CDs). Atlas does allow staff to sign as self-witness if this is an option for the care home.

Statement from CQC:

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) does not require a signature of a witness to be present when administering controlled drugs (CDs). However, it is recommended to have a witness sign the CD register to ensure accuracy and accountability. This practice is not mandated by CQC guidelines but is considered a good practice to prevent errors and ensure proper documentation.
