Issue:

No clicks are being recorded in Ads Defender. The dashboard and metrics view consistently show zero clicks, including both valid and fraudulent clicks.

  • Dashboard shows "0 clicks" across all metrics.

  • Metrics View displays no data.

  • No activity in reports related to click traffic.

Cause Analysis and Solutions:

Solution

Why This Happens

Ad account is inactive or paused

Check if the connected ad account (e.g., Google Ads, Microsoft Ads) is active. Reactivate paused campaigns.

Ads Defender can only track clicks if the ad account is generating traffic. Paused campaigns result in no incoming data.

Insufficient permissions for connected ad account

Verify that the email used to connect Ads Defender has the necessary permissions for the ad account.

Ads Defender cannot access data from an ad account if the user does not have sufficient permissions.

Auto-Tagging is disabled in Google Ads

Enable Auto-Tagging in Ads Defender:

Auto-Tagging assigns a unique click ID (gclid, fbclid, etc.) to every ad click. Ads Defender relies on these IDs to track paid clicks. Without them, clicks cannot be recorded.

Detailed Steps to Resolve:

1. Check Ad Account Status

  • Log into your Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, or Facebook Ads account.

  • Verify if the campaigns linked to Ads Defender are currently running.

  • If the campaigns are paused, resume them to start generating clicks.

2. Verify User Permissions

  • Access the admin settings of your ad platform.

  • Confirm that the email used to integrate Ads Defender has admin or standard access to the ad account.

  • If permissions are missing, request access or link Ads Defender using an email with the appropriate privileges.

3. Enable Auto-Tagging in Google Ads

  • In Google Ads:

    1. Go to Settings > Account Settings.

    2. Ensure that Auto-Tagging is enabled. This setting allows Google to automatically append click IDs (gclid) to ad URLs.

  • In Ads Defender:

    1. Navigate to Click Fraud > Settings.

    2. Locate and enable the Auto-Tagging toggle.

Why Auto-Tagging is Crucial:

Auto-Tagging ensures that every ad click is tracked and assigned a unique identifier (e.g., gclid for Google Ads). Ads Defender relies on these identifiers to distinguish between organic traffic and paid ad clicks. If Auto-Tagging is disabled, Ads Defender cannot detect or record clicks, as it exclusively tracks paid traffic.

Refresh Rate and Real-Time Monitoring:

  • Dashboard Refresh: The Ads Defender dashboard and metrics view refresh every 24 hours. After implementing the solutions above, allow up to one full day to see new data reflected.

  • Live View: For real-time tracking, use the Live View feature within Ads Defender. This provides instant feedback and shows if clicks are being detected as they happen. If clicks appear in Live View, Ads Defender is actively measuring click activity, even if the main dashboard has not yet updated.

Final Check:

  • Step 1: Apply the solutions and verify ad account status, permissions, and Auto-Tagging settings.

  • Step 2: Check Live View for immediate feedback on click activity.

  • Step 3: Wait up to 24 hours for dashboard data to refresh.

If the issue persists after 24 hours and Live View shows no activity, consider reaching out to Ads Defender support for further assistance.
