Using Fingerprint Clocking on the Anviz C2 Pro

Register and use fingerprint authentication on C2 Pro devices for employee clocking

Updated this week

Who this guide is for: Administrators managing employee clock-in using fingerprint on Anviz C2 Pro devices.
Platform: Anviz C2 Pro clocks

Before You Begin

Ensure:

  • The device is showing as Connected in the Sense Clock Transactions Service > Devices tab

  • Employees are already synced from Sense HR

  • You have access to the employee (for fingerprint registration)

πŸ’‘ Employees already exist on the device β€” you are registering a fingerprint, not creating a new user.

If employees are not visible:

Overview

Fingerprint authentication allows employees to clock in and out using a registered fingerprint on the device.

This method is available on:

  • C2 Pro devices only

In this article, you will learn how to:

  • Register a fingerprint for an employee

  • Improve fingerprint reliability

  • Test and confirm successful clocking

Biometric credentials must be enrolled directly on the clock device.

They cannot be pre-configured remotely and must be registered in person.

Fingerprint Registration

Step 1: Open User Management

  1. Press M on the clock keypad

  2. Log in as administrator

  3. Select User and press OK on the keypad
    This opens the user list.

  4. Select Search and press OK on the keypad

πŸ–ŠοΈ Note: For all Anviz devices:

  • Default Admin ID is 0

  • Default Password is 12345

It is recommended that you change this.

Step 2: Select the employee

  1. Locate the employee using their User ID or name.
Employees should already exist if synced from Sense HR.

  2. Select the employee and press the OK key

πŸ’‘Tip: You can find the employee’s user ID in either of the following locations:

  • Sense HR: People > [select profile] > Employment details. The ID is shown in the Time & Attendance ID field

  • Sense Clock Transaction Service: Go to the Employees tab and check the Employee ID column

Step 3: Register fingerprint

  1. Select Register Fingerprint and press the OK key

  2. Place the finger on the sensor
πŸ–ŠοΈ Note: Placing the finger too far onto the sensor or pressing too hard will reduce the quality of the fingerprint.

  3. Repeat the scan multiple times as prompted

πŸ–ŠοΈ Note: To complete registration, the user should scan their finger five times.

If fewer than 3 out of 5 scans are successful, repeat the registration process.

If the white light under the scanner is not on, the device will not scan.

Remove and reposition the finger until the light activates.

βœ… The device will confirm once the fingerprint is successfully registered.

πŸ’‘ Tip: We recommend registering at least 2 fingers from each hand. To add another finger, simply place it on the scanner β€” the device will automatically recognise and register it as a new fingerprint.

Step 4: Save

Confirm the registration:

Once the fingerprint is registered, press M on the clock keypad repeatedly to return to the main clock-in screen.

Step 5: Test Fingerprint authentication

Ask the employee to scan their fingerprint

Expected result:

  • Employee is recognised

  • Clock event is recorded

The event will sync to Sense HR (via the Sense Clock Transactions Service) automatically.

Fingerprint Best Practices

To improve recognition accuracy:

  • place the finger flat on the sensor

  • cover the full sensor area

  • hold the finger steady during scanning

If recognition is inconsistent, re-enrol the fingerprint.

Important Behaviour

Biometrics are stored on the device

Fingerprint templates are stored locally on the clock.

πŸ–ŠοΈ Note: Biometric data is not stored by Sense.

Only a secure biometric template (a mathematical representation of the fingerprint) is used β€” not the original image or scan.

Credentials sync across clocks

If multiple clocks are installed and Sync employee updates to all clocks is enabled in the Sense Clock Transactions Service > Settings tab:

  • fingerprint data enrolled on one clock is available on other connected clocks

Employees must exist before fingerprint enrolment

Biometric data should not be registered unless the employee record exists on the device.

If an employee does not exist on the clock:

  1. Go to Sense HR > People > [select profile]

  2. Click More actions (...) menu (upper right)

  3. Click Anviz sync

Common Fingerprint Issues and How to Avoid Them

Gloves or covered hands

Fingerprint scanners require direct contact with the sensor.

  • Gloves or coverings will prevent fingerprint recognition

Recommendation:

Remove gloves before scanning or use a card instead.

Wet or dirty fingers

Moisture or dirt can affect fingerprint recognition.

  • Water or dirt may prevent the sensor from reading correctly

Recommendation:

Ensure fingers are clean and dry before scanning.

Very dry skin

Very dry fingers can reduce scan quality.

Recommendation:

Re-enrol the fingerprint or try a different finger if recognition is inconsistent.

Changes to fingerprints over time

Frequent exposure to chemicals or heavy manual work can alter fingerprint patterns.

This may affect recognition accuracy, as the stored template may no longer match.

Recommendation:

Re-enrol the fingerprint if recognition becomes inconsistent.

Multiple failed attempts

Repeated failed scans may indicate:

  • incomplete enrolment

  • poor scan quality

  • incorrect positioning

Recommendation:

Re-enrol the biometric credential.

Special Cases: Identical Twins

Fingerprint authentication can be used reliably for identical twins, as fingerprints are unique to each individual.

Facial recognition may be less reliable for identical twins due to similarities in appearance. In these cases, it is recommended to use fingerprint or card-based authentication.

When to Use Cards Instead of Fingerprints

Fingerprint authentication may not be suitable in all environments.

Consider using NFC cards if:

  • employees frequently wear gloves

  • working conditions involve dirt or moisture

Troubleshooting Biometric Issues

Fingerprint not recognised by Anviz device

Check:

  • Fingerprint was registered successfully

  • Finger is placed correctly

  • Sensor is clean

Try re-enrolling the fingerprint.

Employee not found on Anviz device

Possible cause:

β€’ Employee not synced to clock

Resolution:

β€’ Use Anviz sync in Sense HR

β€’ Confirm employee appears in the clock user list

No response from device

Check:

β€’ Device is powered on

β€’ Screen is responsive

β€’ User is enrolled

When to Contact Support

Contact support if:

β€’ Biometric enrolment fails repeatedly

β€’ Multiple users cannot authenticate

β€’ Employees are missing from the device

β€’ Events are not appearing in Sense HR
