What is an UBO?

An Ultimate Beneficial Owner is the individual or individuals who ultimately own or control a company, a trust, or another legal entity. They are the natural persons who stand to benefit from a company's activities, even if their names aren’t on the official business registration. The EU’s Anti-Money Laundering Directives (AMLD) generally define a UBO as any natural person who holds more than 25% of the shares or voting rights, or otherwise exercises control over the entity.

How to retrieve my UBO Register?

Generally, an EU company is required to maintain its own internal UBO register and is also obligated to file this information with its country’s central register. The company is responsible for ensuring the data is accurate, complete, and up-to-date.

To retrieve or verify the information filed on the central register, a company would typically use an online portal or a specific form provided by the national authority responsible for the UBO register (often the Chamber of Commerce, Company Register, or a specific government agency).
