The Embed card

The Embed card lets you embed over 200 media types from more than 1900 media publishers, using Iframely. You can integrate almost any object you find on the web into a Sana Course by simply pasting the URL.

You can find all embed options by clicking Add card > Embed.

Embed block in the editor

Type /embed into the editor to include an embed block and then paste your URL into it. Additionally, if you have any of the examples of embed cards you can type that card name eg. /vimeo

For accessibility, you will have the option to add screen reader description for each embedded card by adding alt text.

How does it work?

The card works by identifying embeddable objects from the URL you paste in the card. You might have noticed that the card doesn't display exactly what is on the web page you link to, but rather an object from it. For instance, in the case of the YouTube video, the card only displays the video itself, and not the comment section, recommended section, search bar, etc.

Youtube

  1. Copy URL via the browser window or via Share button*

  2. Paste into the embed card

*After clicking on Share, you need to press on "Embed" and copy the embed link there

Not working?

If you uploaded the video ensure that the privacy settings of the video are set to ‘Unlisted’ or ‘Public’. If you didn’t upload the video, the video may not be available publicly

Google Drive

  1. In upper right corner click Share

  2. Set the Anyone with a link access settings

  3. Copy the link

  4. Paste into the embed card

or

  1. In upper left corner click File

  2. Click Share and Publish to web

  3. Choose settings and click Publish

  4. Copy the link

  5. Paste into the embed card

  1. In upper right corner click Share

  2. Set the Anyone with a link access settings

Airtable

  1. In upper right corner click Share

  2. Choose Share publicly tab

  3. Check Enable shared based link

  4. Copy the link

  5. Paste into the embed card

Miro

  1. In upper right corner click Share

  2. Copy board link - Anyone with the link*

  3. Copy link

  4. Paste into the embed card

*You need a paid plan to use anyone with a link feature

Pitch

  1. In upper right corner click Share

  2. In the pop up, on the menu to the left, click either Share with anyone or Embed presentation

  3. If choosing Share with anyone ensure Public access is checked

  4. Copy the link or the embed code

  5. Paste into the embed card

Trello

  1. Make sure your board is set to public

  2. Copy the URL in the browser

  3. Paste into Sana’s embed card

Loom

  1. In upper right corner click Share

  2. In the pop up click Copy link (set a timestamp to start the video if you wish)

  3. Paste into the embed card

Vimeo

  1. Copy the URL or click Share under the video

  2. Click the 🔗 link icon and then copy

  3. Paste into the embed card

FAQ

Why won’t my content embed?

Some websites do not allow their content to be embedded on other sites. If you try to embed content from such a website, you may see an error message or a blank space instead of the content.

To check if a website allows embedding, you can look for an embed code or a share button on the site. If you don’t see any of these options, it means the site likely does not support embedding. If you believe that it is embeddable you can test here if a website is embeddable or not: https://iframetester.com/

How do I know what object from my URL the card will display?

It varies from site to site - depending on what the creator of the site has decided.

Why won't the card display it correctly?

There are a few reasons that this could happen, including:

  • The website is only private access - you may need to change page settings to allow public sharing (Note: sometimes when changing this setting it can take up to a minute to update)

  • The website requires a paid subscription to allow their data to be shared publicly

  • The website doesn’t allow for embeddable content
