If you have a monitored alarm system, youโll be asked to provide a list of keyholders. These are trusted contacts who play an important role in keeping your property secure.
๐ฅ What Is a Keyholder?
A keyholder is someone you nominate who can attend your property if your alarm is triggered.
They must:
Live close enough to attend quickly.
Hold a set of keys.
Be able to reset the alarm and liaise with the monitoring centre or Police if needed.
๐ Why Are Keyholders Important?
The Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) needs to know who to call if your alarm activates.
Police or Fire Authorities often require a minimum of two keyholders to be registered for systems with URNs (Unique Reference Numbers).
Having reliable keyholders ensures a rapid response and reduces false alarm callouts.
๐ The Role of the Password
Every monitored system also has a password (sometimes called a verbal password or ID word).
When the ARC calls you or a keyholder, youโll be asked for this password to confirm your identity.
This prevents unauthorised people from interfering with your alarm monitoring.
