🔑 Keyholders for Monitored Customers

The most important person.

Written by Charles Jing

If you have a monitored alarm system, you’ll be asked to provide a list of keyholders. These are trusted contacts who play an important role in keeping your property secure.

👥 What Is a Keyholder?

  • A keyholder is someone you nominate who can attend your property if your alarm is triggered.

  • They must:

    • Live close enough to attend quickly.

    • Hold a set of keys.

    • Be able to reset the alarm and liaise with the monitoring centre or Police if needed.

📌 Why Are Keyholders Important?

  • The Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) needs to know who to call if your alarm activates.

  • Police or Fire Authorities often require a minimum of two keyholders to be registered for systems with URNs (Unique Reference Numbers).

  • Having reliable keyholders ensures a rapid response and reduces false alarm callouts.

🔒 The Role of the Password

  • Every monitored system also has a password (sometimes called a verbal password or ID word).

  • When the ARC calls you or a keyholder, you’ll be asked for this password to confirm your identity.

  • This prevents unauthorised people from interfering with your alarm monitoring.

✏️ How to Change Keyholders or Password

  • To update your keyholder list or password, please contact us:

  • For your security, we require changes in writing (email) so we can update the ARC records accurately.

  • Changes usually take effect within one working day.

✅ Summary

Keyholders and passwords are essential parts of your monitored alarm system. They ensure that:

  • The ARC can verify your identity.

  • Someone can attend site quickly if there’s an alarm.

  • You remain compliant with Police/Fire authority requirements.
