How to Create a New Meta Dataset (Pixel)

Written by Adam Jacobson

Overview

We support sending conversions detected by Tracify back to Meta Ads. This is sometimes called posting back (postback) conversions or sending conversions server to server. This allows you to build and target audiences based on Tracify data, which may improve your overall campaign performance.

If you already have an existing dataset, we recommend creating a dedicated one for Tracify rather than reusing it. This keeps Tracify's attributed conversions separate from your existing pixel data, avoids double counting, and lets you freely point campaigns at different datasets to A/B test effectiveness.

Prerequisites

  • Admin access to the Meta Business Portfolio (Business Manager) that owns your ad account.

  • Admin or full control over the relevant ad account in Events Manager.

Creating the pixel

  • Select Web as the data source type, then click Next.

  • Click Create new dataset.

  • Name your pixel Tracify Dataset so you remember which data it contains.

  • Uncheck the Add Conversions API for web events to your existing datasets checkbox.

  • Click Create.

  • If you manage more than one ad account, select the ad accounts you want to connect to this dataset.

  • Meta will present several setup options. Choose Set up manually (you may need to click 'see other ways to setup'). Click Next.

  • Choose Conversions API and Meta Pixel under 'How do you want to connect your website?'. Then click Next

  • Click Finish on the final 'Instructions' screen

  • You may need to refresh the page, but you should see the data set created in he left menu. Meta generated a Dataset ID - a number like 1234567890123456. Copy and save this ID to a text file you can reference later. You'll need to enter it in the Tracify Dashboard later.

  • Next, if you haven't already selected the dataset, please do so now in the left panel so that it's configuration panel comes into view. Then press the Settings link.

  • Scroll down on the settings panel until you see the section to Set up direct integration. Click to generate an access token.

  • Select the data set you just created from the drop down, and press the generate access token button

  • Meta will then generate a token, which will display like this. Copy the full token over to your text file where you copied your pixel id. You'll need to enter this into Tracify later. Don't lose this token, as you cannot view it again after this point in the ads manager.

Connecting Tracify to your Pixel

Once you have created your dataset and have your Dataset ID copied, you need to turn on sending conversions from Tracify to Meta

  • Copy your Dataset ID into the Meta Pixel ID field

  • Press the button Enable conversion postback to confirm

That's it. Over the next several hours Tracify will begin sending conversions data to your new dataset. You can monitor the events that arrive in your events manager on Meta.
