📂 Adding Local Guidelines in CDS

Upload your clinic's own documents so Ask Tandem can reference them when answering clinical questions.

Note: Ask Tandem and the ability of adding Local Guidelines is an evolving feature, and its behaviour may change as we continue to improve it.

1. Overview

Clinics can upload their own local guidelines, protocols, and referral pathways so Tandem's Clinical Decision Support (CDS) can use them. Once uploaded, CDS uses these documents as a source when answering questions, alongside national guidelines.

This is particularly useful for:

  • Local referral criteria

  • Regional lab reference ranges

  • Two-week-wait pathways

  • Clinic-specific protocols that differ from national standards

2. Who can upload documents?

Only clinic administrators can upload, rename, and delete documents. Everyone at the clinic benefits automatically. No setup required for individual clinicians.

Uploaded documents stay within your organisation. They are not shared with other Tandem customers and are not used to train AI models.

3. How to upload documents

  1. Go to Clinic Settings.

  2. Click Add document.

  3. Upload your file (PDF supported).

That's it. CDS starts using the document as a source for relevant questions.

4. How it works in the chat

When CDS uses a local guideline in a response, it cites it as a source, just as it does with other guidelines. Look for the source reference in the response to see which document was used.

To verify the source: click the citation in the response to open the source panel and view the document directly.

5. Tips for getting the most out of local guidelines

  • Upload documents that cover areas where your clinic's protocols differ from national guidelines.

  • Keep documents up to date. If a protocol changes, replace the old document.

  • Focus on content clinicians look up most often: referral criteria, local contact pathways, threshold values.
