How to view and edit "Unknown periods"

Both drivers and managers can edit an unknown period directly in Tachogram.

For each one, you can set what type of activity it actually was and add a note explaining the situation. This adds the missing context so the activity is accounted for.

🔔 Keep in mind this updates the record in Tachogram, but not the data stored on the road.

To stay compliant during a roadside check, you'll still need to print out each case where data was changed and carry the printout with you for as long as it falls within the 28-day period.

When to edit unknown periods

It's best to edit an unknown period as soon as you notice it, especially if it's a longer gap or one that affects a driver's rest or work time. If you have several to review, here's how to prioritize:

  • Very short gaps - (a few seconds or a couple of minutes, like a quick card reinsertion) are unlikely to cause real issues, even if left unresolved.

  • Longer gaps - especially ones spanning rest periods or work activity, are worth prioritizing, since they're the ones most likely to affect working time calculations or get questioned.

  • Recurring gaps for the same driver - are worth resolving and investigating regardless of length, since they usually point to a habit or technical issue worth fixing at the source.
