Icebreaker overview

WhatsApp conversation starters (icebreakers) allow contacts to send you preset messages. These are displayed when someone wants to chat with you on WhatsApp for the first time.

Disclaimer: Icebreakers are only displayed when the chat is opened for the first time.

Icebreakers are the easiest way to cover the most common questions & problems of your contacts.

For example, you can enter "I'm interested in getting a demo of your product" or "I'd like to know more about open positions at Acme Corp" as icebreakers. This function is particularly useful for Customer Support and to Start sales automations.

This is what Icebreakers look like on WhatsApp πŸ‘‡

Set up Icebreakers

You can easily create icebreakers within your META business manager.

You can set up to 4 conversation starters per phone number, whereby each icebreaker can contain a maximum of 80 characters. Please note that emojis are currently not supported.

You can set up entertainment starters directly in the WhatsApp Manager in Meta. To get there, simply click on the button below.

  1. In the number view, select your desired number and click on the gear icon.

  2. Click on Automations in the menu bar on the left.

  3. Now click on Edit next to the Icebreakers.

  4. Lastly, add your icebreaker texts and then click on Save. Don't worry, you can change or delete the texts at any time if something doesn't work as desired.

Combining both Opt-in and icebreakers

You can easily combine both Opt-in and icebreakers by implementing the keyword into one of your icebreakers in META. Customers can then immediately subscribe to your newsletter and opt-in for future marketing actions.

Connecting Icebreakers to your Automations

Consider keeping the conversation going by combining icebreakers and your workflow in automations in Superchat:

After you have set up your Icebreaker in WhatsApp Manager, add a new Automation in Superchat:

  1. Navigate to Automations in your Superchat account and click on New Automation.

  2. Give your automation a name so finding it will be easier later. Then click on Add trigger:

  3. Choose New incoming conversation.

  4. Select WhatsApp on the right under Communication channels (If you have several numbers in your Superchat account, you need one automation per number)

  5. To create the next step of the automation, hold down the circle, drag the mouse to the right and release:

  6. Now select Message content:

  7. Create the first filter. Under Enter text, enter the text of your Icebreaker that you have set up in your Meta business account. Then click on Add new path.

  8. Create a new path for each Icebreaker.

  9. Now create the desired next steps, depending on which Icebreaker the contact selects. Then click on Publish. Under this link you will find various options for the type of message you can send.

  10. Press Publish again. Your automation is live now πŸŽ‰
