How to confirm your data completeness

Step by step to complete your data – so your tax return can begin

In order to prepare your tax returns, we need complete information about your accounting, the business tax returns, and – if desired – your personal tax return.

Important: We will only begin processing once you have

  • completed all relevant questionnaires and

  • actively confirmed the completeness of your data.


What do you need to submit?

In the smarta Web-App, you will be asked about three areas for each tax year:

  1. Accounting

  2. Business Tax Returns

  3. Personal Tax Return (optional)


1. Complete accounting

For this area to be considered completed, all transactions must either

  • be supported by a receipt or

  • be marked as private (if no receipt is available) or

  • be verified by our team.

Note: Our system checks once per day whether these requirements are met. Even if you have entered everything correctly, it may take up to 24 hours for the status to be shown as "completed."

Tip: If you're missing a receipt, you may be able to create a self-issued receipt (Eigenbeleg). Here you can find more information and a template: Receipts for business income and expenses.

2. Submit business tax returns


Once you have fully completed all questionnaires in this section (status: "Complete"), the "Submit" button will be activated.

Steps to submit:

  1. Click on “Hand in”

  2. In the next window, the declaration of completeness will appear

  3. Check the box “Accept declaration of completeness”

Click on “Hand in documents”

3. Submit or deselect private Tax Declaration

If you would also like us to prepare your private Tax Declaration, the process is the same as for the business data:

Complete all questionnaires and then declare completeness via the "Submit" button.

You don’t want to submit a personal tax return via smarta?


Then you can actively deselect it:

  1. Click on “No private Tax Declaration”

  2. Confirm your selection in the next step.

Only when all relevant sections are completed is the data submission considered complete.


What happens next?


Once you have submitted your data in full, you qualify for the processing of your tax returns.

We handle cases in the order in which the complete data is received.
The earlier you submit your information, the sooner we will start preparing your returns.
