Accidental damage is sudden, unexpected or unintentional physical damage that’s caused by an outside force. It’s different from damage caused by wear and tear or a breakdown.

This insurance cover comes with limited accidental damage. For buildings, it means we’ll cover:

  • Accidental breakage of fixed glass, fixed sanitary ware or ceramic hobs in fixed kitchen furniture.

  • Accidental damage to cables and underground pipes serving your home for which you are legally responsible, including the cost of breaking into and repairing the pipe between the main sewer and your home following a blocked pipe.

For contents, it means we’ll cover:

  • Accidental breakage of glass in furniture, mirrors or ceramic hobs in unfixed kitchen appliances.

    Accidental damage to:

  • Audio, hi-fi, TV, including satellite receivers and set top boxes, video game consoles, DVD, video or telecommunication equipment.

  • Computers.

  • Satellite television-receiving equipment or television and radio aerials.

We won’t cover mobile phones, computer software, handheld computers or electronic toys.

Additional accidental damage cover (optional)

You can add optional accidental damage cover to your contents or buildings insurance, or both, to give you full cover when certain things happen, like:

  • Burning your kitchen worktop with a hot saucepan (buildings).

  • Putting your foot through a floor or ceiling (buildings).

  • Spilling red wine on your sofa (contents).

  • Dropping a hot iron on your carpet (contents).
