This article will guide you through the process of deactivating a licence, which is an essential step in managing your digital signage players. Don't worry if you're new to this β we'll explain everything clearly.
Why would I need to deactivate a Licence?
Deactivating a licence might seem a bit technical, but it's a common task you'll encounter when managing your Signagelive players. Think of a Licence as a permit that allows a specific Player (your hardware, device) to connect to your Signagelive Network and display your content. When you deactivate a licence, you're revoking that permit from one player so it can be used on another.
Here are the main reasons why you might need to deactivate a licence:
Replacing a Faulty player: | Hardware can sometimes fail. If one of your Signagelive players stops functioning correctly, you'll need to replace it with a new device. Before using your licence on the new player, you must first deactivate it from the faulty one. This releases the licence so it can be activated on your replacement device. |
Reassigning a Licence: | Imagine you have a Signagelive player in one location, but you now need to use that licence for a player in a different location or a completely new purpose. Deactivating the licence from the original player makes it possible to reactivate it on the new target player. This is a great way to reuse your existing licences efficiently. |
Upgrading hardware: | As technology advances, you might choose to upgrade your digital signage players to newer, more powerful models. Just like replacing a faulty player, you'll need to deactivate the licence from your old device before you can use it on your upgraded one. |
Retiring a Player | If you're no longer going to use a particular digital signage player, perhaps because you're downsizing or changing your setup, you'll want to deactivate its licence. This ensures the licence is available for future use or can be managed appropriately within your Signagelive account. |

Click on the Licence tab. You'll see different tabs within the player's details; select the one labelled "Licence."
Select Deactivate. This will deactivate the licence linked to that player.

Method 3: Place the Player in the Trash
This method is the fastest way to deactivate a licence if you want to completely remove the player from your Signagelive network.
Log in to your Signagelive Network as an Administrator.
Navigate to Network.
Choose Manage.
Select the Player linked to the licence you wish to delete.
Click on the red Trash icon, usually found near the player's name or details.
The Player will be deleted and then deactivated. This will remove the player from your active list and deactivate its associated licence.
Outcome of Licence Deactivation
Whichever method you choose, all the steps outlined above will successfully deactivate the current player from its licence. This means the licence is now free and ready for you to reassign it to another Signagelive player, or even to the same one if you're troubleshooting and need to reactivate it.
