The Signagelive YouTube App enables you to integrate high-quality video content directly into your digital signage. Whether you are using a full-screen playlist or a multi-zone layout, you can easily schedule and display:

  • Individual YouTube videos

  • Live streams

  • Full video playlists

The YouTube App can be added to your Signagelive Network for use in your Playlists and Layouts directly from the Signagelive Marketplace. If you are yet to add this, please take a look at the following section.

Please Note

While the YouTube App enables broad content sharing, we recommend only using content you own or have permission to use. To ensure you stay compliant with YouTube’s Terms of Service and avoid copyright strikes, we recommend reviewing this Facts and Myths of Content Sharing guide.

Adding the YouTube App to your Signagelive Network from the Marketplace

  1. Log in to your Signagelive Network

  2. Head to Content > Playlists > Create/Edit to access the Asset Library

  3. From the Asset Library, select Marketplace (located along the left-hand side)

  4. Find the YouTube App and click on it

  5. Select Add to Signagelive

  6. Exit the Marketplace using the cross (X) located in the top-right

You'll now be back in your Asset Library and will find the YouTube App by filtering by Recently Added or by searching for the app within your assets.

Using the YouTube App

With the YouTube App added to your Signagelive Network's Asset Library, you can double-click on the asset itself or from within your chosen playlist (once it has been added). This will allow you to access the Asset Properties, where you can select which YouTube content you'd like to display.

Description

Content Type

Select the drop-down to choose whether to display a single Video or a Playlist of videos.

In this field, you must enter the unique ID of the video or playlist you are attempting to display. Refer to this section of this article for guidance on entering this information (entering the full URL of the video or playlist will not work).

Show Controls

Check or uncheck this box to display or hide the video controls on-screen (pause/play button, volume, settings, full-screen toggle, etc.).

Closed Captions

Check or uncheck this box to display or hide Closed Captions on your YouTube content.

Note: Our YouTube app does not currently support auto-generated Closed Captions; therefore, if you wish to make use of Closed Captions, please upload and publish your own Captions/Subtitles to your videos.

Autoloop Video

Check or uncheck this box to enable or disable Autoloop

Note: by default, this is set to OFF, meaning that if only displaying a single video, it will play once and then stop).

Related Videos

Check this box if you would like to display related videos after your video ends

Note: unless you have a keyboard plugged into your digital signage device or a touchscreen device, you will not be able to interact with these related videos.

Mute Playback

Check this box if you wish to mute video playback.

Note on Playback Length:

When you add the YouTube App to a Playlist, please remember to change the default duration from 10 seconds to the actual length of your video. If used as a Static App in a Layout, the content will loop automatically and refresh once every 24 hours.

How to find your Video or Playlist ID

To display content, the Signagelive YouTube App requires the unique ID found at the end of the YouTube URL. You can find this in your browser's address bar:

  • For Videos & Live Streams: Copy everything after v=

    • Example: youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ

  • For Playlists: Copy everything after list=

    • Example: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLirAqAtl_h2r5g8xGajEwdXd3L1y

Simply paste this ID into the Video/Playlist ID field of the YouTube app in Signagelive.

Using the YouTube App in a Layout

To use the YouTube App in a Layout, you can either:

  • Use a Static Widget: This will enable you to add a YouTube App directly from your Asset Library to your chosen Layout, where you can then modify its Asset Properties as described in this section.

  • Use a Schedulable Zone: This will enable you to add an entire playlist of content containing your YouTube App (and additional content should you wish) to your Layout.

Additional Notes:

⚠️ Requirement for Live Streams

To broadcast a live stream, you must enable the "Allow Embedding" option in your YouTube Stream settings.

  • Why? If this is disabled, YouTube will block the video from playing on external platforms, and the Signagelive app will display an error.

  • When? This must be configured in YouTube before you publish your Signagelive content.
