How to Configure Automatic Translations

Use this article to learn how to configure Automatic Translations for a study, allow participants to view translated study content, and set your export language for translated data.

Automatic Translations provides real-time translations for participant responses, exportable translated data, and automatic translation of study configurations.

Who Can Configure Automatic Translations?

  • Study Language Configuration: Analysts must define Study Languages during study creation to trigger Automatic Translations. Participant Languages can then be refined to determine which Study Languages will be visible to participants.

  • Data Export Preferences: Any Analyst or Moderator can select their personal export language preferences. Clients by default will not be able to generate transcripts or exports unless additional permissions are enabled with Study Admin>Study Settings>Permissions

Configuring Automatic Translations for a Study

To configure Automatic Translations during study creation, Analysts can follow these steps:

  • Create a New Study.

  • Use the Study Languages dropdown to select the language(s) you want to translate study content to. These languages will be available to Analysts, Moderators and Clients.

    • Note: If the required language isn’t available during study creation, it must be enabled at the site level first.

  • Use the Participant Languages dropdown to select which Study Languages should be visible to participants.

    • Note: The Participant Languages menu only becomes available if more than one Study Language has been selected.

  • Complete study creation by clicking Next.

Study Language Limits and Support Overrides

  • Default Limit: A maximum of five Study Languages can be selected during study creation.

  • Limit Overrides: Admins can contact Recollective’s Helpdesk to request additional languages be added.

Copying Multilingual Studies

Only Analysts are able to copy studies. When copying an existing study for multi-market projects:

  • Original Study Languages: The original Study Language(s) will remain enabled and cannot be deselected.

  • Participant Languages: Study-specific Participant Language(s) can be modified by Analysts and Moderators from within Study Admin>Study Settings>Language

  • Post-Creation Changes: If configured Study Languages must be modified after initial study creation, Admins must contact the Recollective Helpdesk for assistance.

Disabling Participant Access to Automatic Translations

When multiple Participant Languages are defined, participants can view translated responses, comments, and replies in their preferred language by default.

If Admins wish to prevent participants from accessing this feature, Admins can disable View translated responses from within Study Admin>Study Settings>Language.

Configuring Export Language for Translated Study Data

Automatic Translations allow administrators to export translated study data in their preferred language. To use this feature, the Recollective study must already have multiple languages configured.

To set your export data language:

  1. Click on the Language Preferences icon in the bottom-left corner of the interface.

  2. Using the Export Language dropdown menu, select your desired language for export.

  3. Toggle on Translated responses if you would like to include translated content such as participant responses, discussion replies, and task comments.

  4. Export your Study Response Data in the format of your choosing.
