Dental emergencies and accidents can be stressful. Following these steps can help you get timely treatment and make it easier to request assistance with costs afterward.

If you are within 30 miles of your registered dental practice

  1. Call your registered dental practice immediately.

    • You can find their number on their website or via Google.

    • Outside standard hours (usually 9am–5pm), check the answering machine—it may provide an out-of-hours emergency contact.

  2. Book an emergency appointment.

Important: Accident or emergency treatment within 30 miles of your registered practice is not claimable under the Discretionary Scheme.

If you are more than 30 miles away from your registered dental practice, including overseas

  1. Find a local dental practice.

    • Use Google Maps or a search engine with terms like “dental practice near me” or “dentist in [Town name].”

  2. Call to book an emergency appointment.

    • If you’re overseas, international call rates may apply.

  3. Get an invoice for treatment.

    • This is essential if you plan to request assistance with costs later.

After treatment

Following your treatment, you can complete a Request for Assistance Form. For help on how to do that, see this article.
