What is Osprey Go?
Osprey Go is our easiest way to charge. Once you're set up, just plug in and your session starts on its own. No tapping, no card, no app to open.
How does it work?
Osprey Go is available through the Osprey app. If your car is eligible and you've completed the short setup, the next time you plug in at a supported chargepoint your session starts on its own, and payment is taken from the card saved to your Osprey account.
How do I become eligible?
Charge with the Osprey app at two separate Osprey chargepoints. This lets us recognise your vehicle. Once you've done that, if your vehicle supports Osprey Go, you'll be able to set it up in the app.
Is my car eligible?
Not all EVs are compatible just yet. Some vehicles can't be recognised securely enough to support it, while some don't use the right connector (Osprey Go is only available through CCS charging). You can find out whether yours is supported when you go to set up Osprey Go in the app.
How does it actually work?
Your vehicle has a digital identifier (a MAC address) that it shares when it connects to a charger. Osprey Go links that identifier to your Osprey account, so when you plug in, the chargepoint recognises your vehicle and starts your session.
Why didn't my session count towards setup?
A few things can stop a session counting: using a different vehicle, charging on a connector Osprey Go doesn't support, or a dropped connection at the chargepoint. Your charge still goes through as normal. Charge again with the same vehicle at a supported rapid chargepoint to keep progressing.
Once set up, how do I pay for charging?
You don't need to tap a card or start the charge in the app, but you're billed exactly as you would be for a normal app session. Payment is taken from the card saved in your Osprey app, at your usual app rate.
Can I turn it off?
Yes, anytime. If you decide Osprey Go isn’t for you, just toggle it off in the Osprey Go page of your Osprey App profile.
Is Osprey Go available on all chargers?
Not quite yet. Osprey Go works on most of our chargepoints and we're rolling it out across the rest of the network. Where it isn't available, you can charge as normal using the app or contactless. Keep an eye out for stickers on the chargepoints that will indicate if a charger doesn't yet support Osprey Go - or check in the Osprey app.
How do I know my charge has started?
When your session starts, you'll see it live in the Osprey app, with charging speed, cost and how much you've added. Turn on push notifications and we'll let you know when your charge starts, so you can leave it to charge and get on with your day without checking. If a session doesn't start for any reason, the app will show that too, so you'll always know where you stand.
What if I sell my vehicle?
Go to the Osprey Go page under Profile and remove your vehicle. If you don't, Osprey Go could keep starting charges for that vehicle, billed to your card.
Can I use Osprey Go on a shared car?
No. Osprey Go can only be set up on one Osprey account per vehicle, so it isn't suitable for cars shared across more than one account.
Why isn't my vehicle supported?
Osprey Go currently works through Autocharge. Some manufacturers don't yet support Autocharge, and some vehicles change their digital identifier each time they connect, which means we can't recognise them securely. This is set by the vehicle rather than by Osprey, so it's worth asking your dealer or manufacturer whether your vehicle supports Autocharge, and whether a software or firmware update could enable it. We're also working with partners to widen support as fast as we can.
Why Autocharge and not Plug and Charge?
For you, the experience is the same: plug in and your session starts and pays on its own. The difference is in what works, and how dependably. Autocharge is supported by far more vehicles than Plug and Charge, so many more drivers can use it today. It's also a simpler, more established technology, which makes for a more reliable charging experience. By focusing on Autocharge first, we can bring this way of charging to more drivers, and make sure it works dependably when they plug in.
Does this mean Osprey isn't developing Plug and Charge?
Not at all. Once Osprey Go is fully rolled out with Autocharge, we'll look to support Plug and Charge vehicles too. For that to be worthwhile, Plug and Charge needs broader vehicle support and neutral ecosystem governance, but when the time is right, we'll make it part of Osprey Go. Whether your vehicle uses Autocharge or Plug and Charge, we'll keep charging simple and reliable.
