Push notifications - How does it work?

What triggers a notification?

1. Inactivity

If one of your users hasn’t engaged with MobieTrain in the past 2 weeks, we will send this user a notification. It will be a push notification that will be displayed on the device of the user. Every time the user is inactive for too long, the users will receive a similar notification again.

2. New 1-on-1 chat

Every time a user receives a new chat message in a private chat, the message will display directly as a pop-up on his device. This is only applicable for a private chat and not a group chat, in order to not overload the user with too many pop-up notifications.

What does it look like?

A notification will pop up immediately on the user's smartphone, tablet or desktop pc. So what it exactly looks like, depends on the device and its settings.

The chat notification show the sender and the initial message.

The message of the inactivity notification is short, playful and will be differentiated a bit every time, in order to not bore out users with these reminders. Here are some examples:

  • Don't forget us - 📢 [User name], it’s been 2 weeks! Don’t let others get too far ahead, login now! ⚡

  • Don't forget us - 💜 We miss you, [User name]! Check out what’s new! 📢

  • Don't forget us - 💜 ⚡ Quick reminder, [User name]: Your next learning adventure is just a click away! 🚀

How can a user turn off notifications?

Automated notifications are an effortless and proven way to maximize the engagement of users, so we hope for your L&D department no one ever turns it off.

Of course, the users has the final say in what kind of notifications they wants to receive on their device. So therefore, a user will always need to allow MobieTrain to send him notifications. This is done on the first time the user logs in into MobieTrain. The user will then see this screen:

Once enabled, a user can disable the notifications in the profile settings at any time. Once blocked, the notifications from MobieTrain need to be allowed back in the settings of the device or browser. That is because these settings are done per device, such as phone, tablet or PC. The notifications will be shown on the device that the user last logged in with.

How can I ensure that users allow the notifications?
Once turned off, the notifications can only be turned on again via the settings of the device. There are a lot of benefits to the notifications, but users do need to accept them. The more you can stimulate users to allow the notifications, the more engagement you’ll have within MobieTrain!

I don't receive notifications, what is wrong?

There can be several reasons why you or one of your users has not received a notification:

  • You have been active in the last 2 weeks. We only send a reminder to those who have not logged in into the MobieTrain app in the last 14 days.

  • You need to explicitly activate the notifications in the MobieTrain app. You can see that setting in your profile in the MobieTrain App. Only when this setting is enabled, we can send you a notification.

  • You might have blocked notifications in the browser you are working with. You can verify that in the notifications section of your browser, such as Chrome, Safari, Edge and others. Even if you enabled the notifications in your profile, it might still be blocked by browser settings!

  • You are logged in on another device. We will send notifications to the device that you last used to login. So if you logged in via your laptop lastly, you will receive the notifications there and not on your phone.

  • You don't have a user role. Notifications are only send to users and not to admins and managers. You can check this role in the user management of MobieTrain's CMS.

  • You are logged in on an iPhone and did not add the MobieTrain icon to your phone's home screen. Read here how to do that.
