Troubleshooting water quality setup issues

Fixes for the most common Water Quality setup problems — missing parameters, the wrong sub-rule applying, blocked submissions, missing validation warnings, and deleted rulesets still showing in Checklists.

Overview

Most Water Quality issues come down to a misconfigured ruleset, sub-rule, or Checklist link. This guide covers the problems that come up most often and how to fix each one.

🚀 Early Access: Water Quality is an early-access feature — expect changes and new features as the module evolves.

Checklist shows no water quality parameters

  • Cause — the Water Quality Question isn't linked to a ruleset.

  • Fix — edit the Checklist and select a ruleset when configuring the Water Quality Question.

Heads-up: Without a ruleset selected, no validation can occur and staff won't see parameter fields.

The wrong sub-rule is being applied

  • Cause — multiple sub-rules have no Location Group, or they overlap on the same scheduled Location.

  • Fix — review the order of sub-rules (the first match applies) and assign clear Location Groups to prevent overlap.

Best practice: Always scope sub-rules to Location Groups where you can — that's what lets Mobaro apply the right one automatically.

Staff can't submit a checklist

  • Cause — required parameters weren't completed.

  • Fix — in the Water Quality Question configuration, check which parameters are marked required, and remind staff that all required values must be entered before submitting.

Validation warnings don't appear

  • Cause — minimum and maximum thresholds are missing or set incorrectly.

  • Fix — edit the ruleset and make sure every parameter has both a minimum and a maximum.

Heads-up: All parameters must have thresholds, even ones that aren't required in the field.

Deleted ruleset still appears in checklists

  • Cause — a Checklist still contains a Water Quality Question linked to the deleted ruleset.

  • Fix — edit the Checklist and remove the question or relink it to an active ruleset.

Avoiding issues

  • Confirm every parameter in a ruleset has a minimum and maximum.

  • Scope sub-rules to Location Groups to avoid overlap.

  • Review sub-rule order whenever more than one could apply.

  • Train staff on how validation warnings work so they know what to expect in the field.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Can I test rulesets before assigning them to live checklists?
A: Yes. Create a test Checklist linked to a training Location to confirm sub-rule assignment and validation.

Q: Do changes to a ruleset fix old results?
A: No. Edits only apply to new Results going forward.
